Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

The GOOD bottle I carted back from Livingston, Montana ...stupid Yellow Lighning bullshit. Anyway, a wonderful example of Imperial Ipa. Color is a gorgeous garnet/tawny, with a sticky off-white head with lovely lacing. Nose is full of honeydew melon (or cantelope?), as well as salty preserved lemons, biscuit, pine, and a whiff of alcohol. palate is largely dominated by pine and spruce initially. As it warms, the pine becomes more resiny, and the beer shows biscuit, bittersweet melon, and a very Cascade-ish hoppiness. Good long, bitter finish. Good Stuff.

22 oz. bottle from South Bay. Pours dark orange with a creamy white head. Aroma of pine, grass, pineapple, tangerine, and grapefruit. Flavor is much of the same; big hop bitterness of grapefruit and pine with a nicely balanced sweetness not found in most West Coast DIPAs. Incredibly drinkable. This is outstanding stuff.

Bottle, courtesy fishingnet. Reddish brown pour, thick white head and lacing, lots of bubbles on the glass. Very flowery hops, spicy, some tropical notes. Flavor has mango, citrus, some malty grain in the finish, some caramel. Medium-bodied, slick sparkly finish.

Pours a transparent copper amber with a small, frothy, stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of big juicy citrusy hops with a touch of grassiness and orange along with some sweet underlying caramely notes. Body starts with nice full malty sweetness and good balance of resiny bittering and flavor hops before a semi-sweet crisp finish. A very nice double IPA.

22oz bomber: Appearance is amber brown with slow fading cream colr head, aroma is strong in hops along with a good amount of malt, flavor as expected very strong in citrus hops along with some slight chocolate and nutty flavors in the malt. Very well balanced beer, one of the better IIPAs I have had.

Bottle thanks to JB175. Pours a clear deep amber with a small white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, citrusy hops, and hop leafs. Flavor is more malty than the aroma would suggest with a resiny hops and sweet malt finish. Nice hops-malt balance. Quite enjoyable! 8/4/7/4/15 (3.8/5)

Bottle. Aroma of very fresh, almost wet-smelling hops, both juicy citrus and woody pine, on top of a nougat and toffee malt base. Flavor continues to express both lively, citrus hop tones as well as resinous pine notes that really build and coat the mouth. Strong malt presence is evident as well, working particularly well with the pine/wood aspect of the hops. Quite nice.
