Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2006, Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Henge Experimental IPA reappears this year with more extreme hop flavors than ever before. The new formulation is the epitome of the brewery’s experimental style and commitment to innovation, while gratifying their unquenchable thirst for beautifully balanced hoppy beers. The newest incarnation of Hop Henge uses several new hop processes and techniques to create a truly unique and unexpected beer. Several pounds of Centennial & Cascade hops are in each barrel with a heavy dry-hop presence to top it off. A blend of crystal, pale and caraston malts creates an overall biscuity characteristic that is dense and muscular, building the alcohol base to support the monstrous hop profile. 95 IBUs.

From bottle. Pours copper colored with typical light tan head. Fruity floral hops and sweeter malts than expected. A decent bitter finish, but a little sweeter and fuller in the malts than I prefer. Still, one of the better double IPAs out there, I think.

Bottle. Poured an orange-ish amber with a thin egg-shell head. Fair amount of hops in the nose leading to thoughts of citrus and pine. Clean crisp flavor, nice balance of caramel sweetness and hoppy grassyness. Nice floral hop profiles, medium bitter finish. Yum.

Thanks to whomever shared this with me. A nice mix of hops in the nose, pine, citrus and even some grain can all be picked out. Flavor is bitter and slightly sweet. Good stuff.

22 oz. bottle. pours a light amber, soft tall head. an aroma of toast, nuts and a little banana . tastes of a variety of hops, that i could never list, a nice mix of light malt. sour, dry lingering bitterness. a noticeable alcohol content, for me the bitterness of hop and sweetness of malt did not even out, for ’experimental’ its still a nice bottle of beer.

this would be batch #2 as the bottle states... a hazy reddish copper colored pour is capped by a 1.5" tan tinted off white head. rings and spotty lacing abound in this one. it is slightly citrus numbing and resinous in the nostrils... followed by pine needles, leafy hops, caramel and a bunch of bubble gum. the flavor is a bit peachy and citrusy but mostly toasted grainy and malty... there is a waxiness and bitterness throughout along with a dry crisp finish and lingering parching quality. the medium body is a little thin when compared to the style. this keeps it very drinkable as it veers from stickiness. a creamy smooth mouth feel is nicely countered by bitterness... 7/4/7/4/16/3.8

Pours a murkey copper brown with some creamy off white head. Actually, the beer clears up nicely as it warms. The nose is ripe with grapefruit and pine, with a sturdy toasted malt backbone. The flavor is really well balanced with sweet malt and fruity hops. It finishes with a mild bitterness. Medium body and supremly drinkable. Really nice beer.

bottle pours a clear dark orange with a thin but clumpy head that leaves a slight lacing. The aroma is strong in the hops department, of the pine/ earthen sense, but what else is there? The taste is expectantly bitter but again lacking nuance.

Pours with a crystal clear, amber body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and hoppy with grapefruit notes, a hint of pine, and a little apricot. Full bodied, smooth and a little dry.
