It’s slightly sweet and hoppy with grapefruit notes, a hint of pine, and a little apricot. Full bodied, smooth and a little dry. DuffManSW (293), Riverside, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 9, 2009 Bottle from Lee’s Discount Liquor in Mesquite, Nevada...Batch #3...Pours a orange amber with a off white head...Piney and floral hops with some malt sweetness...Pretty thick body with a lot of malt. Slight hop bitterness that doesn’t seem like it’s 95IBUs..Kinda reminds me of something you would get off cask. DalzAle (504), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 9, 2009 Bottle from Snojerk321 (Thanks!) Rich orange pour, medium carbonation and a wonderful rich aromatic flower and pine aroma. Flavor was plenty of grapefruit, flowers, pine and hops. Finish was a little heavy and syrupy, but still a solid beer! DYCSoccer17 (2200), Davis, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 8, 2009 22 ounce bottle purchased at BevMo in Vacaville. Holy shit. This is Bazooka Joe/Big League Chew. Nothing but sweet, sugary bubble gum in the aroma. WTF? Is this a double IPA or a bubble gum beer? It’s really difficult to detect any hops in the nose. Transparent copper body with a pretty strong off-white head. Spicy, herbal start without too much maltiness in the middle. Pretty straightforward and unbalanced. Finishes with lots of bitter, dry grapefruity hop flavors and more spiciness. Definitely not a fan of this shit. tripelthreat (83), Soquel, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2009 Bottle. Big improvement over previous years. A deep amber body is topped by a large off-white head that fades but leaves some nice thick lacing. Nose is floral, spicy, orange, and some caramel malt. Flavor is malty sweet, bready and strongly bitter with oily pine and grapefruit. The bitterness is lingering and a bit harsh at first, but mellows out as I get acclimated. Mouthfeel is on the thicker side of medium. The more I drink, the more I like it. BelgianBeerGal (1306), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2009 Local bottle. Another solid performance from Deschutes. High quality DIPA with the grapefruit notes that I like. Maybe a little alcohol burn-through at cellar temp, but still nice. AgentSteve (1376), SF Bay Area, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 5, 2009 Pours attractive amber orange with a finger thick cream colored head that leaves chunks of lacing behind. The nose is full with pineapple, sweet oranges and floral hops. A decent amount of caramel as well. The flavor has a sweet caramel front along with sweet fruits that fade to a dry, bitter finish. Lasting aftertaste and full mouthfeel. tokyogoat (567), San Diego, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2009 Poured from a friend’s bottle at work into a styrafoam cup.
From what I could see, it was a dark honey yellow with a thick creamy had that sat around like ice cream on top of a rootbeer float.
Smells of fruity hops.
Smell and taste are very clean. Not too bitter, nice light malt backbone to add a little sweetness to the bitter hops. Alcohol is hidden very well.
Just another excellent offering from Deschutes.
*tried again, coloring is as expected. and just as delicious.
