fizl (12), Springfield, Oregon, USA Jun 4, 2008 Deschutes Hop Henge Imperial IPA- This fresh brew starts of with a nice floral hop aroma that combines cascade, centennial and a yet to be named variety of hops. The hops are balanced with a dominating traditional deschutes caramel and roasted malt combo. It pours a dark reddish copper hue that swells into a lumpy tan head with light carbonation. As far as taste goes this is the most well balanced double IPA I’ve ever tasted. It kicks off with a solid hop bite that is equally compensated with that distinct smooth malty richness that all deschutes beers carry. This is a very drinkable double IPA with a medium body that cleverly disguises its alcohol content at 8.75% ABV. This brew delivers a fierce kick to the gonads which leaves you longing for more. All in all I think this could use a little more hop bite, but damn good nonetheless. Awesome with mild white cheese!
presario (2501), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Nov 20, 2008 Orange with a very big head and lacing. Strong hop scent settles down and seems hard to find mid-glass. Hops land on your tongue and then explodes throughout your mouth. bit of a dark eucalyptus quality. Skyview (3063), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Oct 26, 2008 Sampled from 22-oz bomber and shared during Surly D-Day. Pours a semi-clear copper amber brew with a thick off-white head that has some nice retention and sticky lacing. Aroma of grapefruit and citrus hops, a touch of caramel and toffee. Taste is expected bitter, medium bodied, with flavors of grapefruit, roasted nuts, caramel and some bread dough. Finish continues its lingering grapefruit aftertaste that changes to a caramel and toffee flavor. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 23, 2008 7-27-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to ditmier <br />
Medium red orange amber color with a good cream colored head and a nice ring of lacing. Smell is very subtle and a bit underplayed, or rather: muted floral hops with a more obvious presence of dough. Flavor is mild hops as well with some more doughiness. Mouthfeel is low to medium carbonation. Not very bold, but decent overall and drinkable. beergod!
