Commercial Description:
Who knows what inspired the ancients to build Stonehenge--or what inspired us to build Hop Henge in its likeness. But build it we did, out of wrapped bales of whole-flower hops out on the brewery lawn. Like the rest of the Bond Street Series, Hop Henge highlights the creativity and curiousity of our brewers. Bolder than its English ancestors, with huge hops and a bitter finish, this IPA is no wallflower.

NOTE: This is the original version. In 2007 it was bumped up to an IIPA. See that entry here.

This one was just too hoppy for me. It was a good one to check out but nothing about it jumped out at me. It’s like the Ninkasi beers, just way overly hopped.

Deschutes Hop Henge Imperial IPA- This fresh brew starts of with a nice floral hop aroma that combines cascade, centennial and a yet to be named variety of hops. The hops are balanced with a dominating traditional deschutes caramel and roasted malt combo. It pours a dark reddish copper hue that swells into a lumpy tan head with light carbonation. As far as taste goes this is the most well balanced double IPA I’ve ever tasted. It kicks off with a solid hop bite that is equally compensated with that distinct smooth malty richness that all deschutes beers carry. This is a very drinkable double IPA with a medium body that cleverly disguises its alcohol content at 8.75% ABV. This brew delivers a fierce kick to the gonads which leaves you longing for more. All in all I think this could use a little more hop bite, but damn good nonetheless. Awesome with mild white cheese!

One of my favorite beer labels so far. Bottle: Pours a luminous orange with thick and frothy white head. Earthy, fresh-squeezed hop bouquet with toffee undertones. Stinging bitterness on the palate, but finishes with some caramel malt. Overall, extremely hopped.

On draft at Newport Pizza and Ale house. Pours a deep orangy hue with a powerful citrus hop nose. The taste was very hop forward with pineyness, hops, and grapefruit throughout. The end is crisp and smooth, this was a very good IPA, sorry to see it retired~

From the 2006 release - This is quite a delicious IPA. I love it when I pop a top and the aroma quickly fills the air with citrusy goodness, fresh and very clean, with a bitter bite initially on the palate, this beer really takes hold of your palate, but is smoothed out with a strong malt backbone to hold everything together.
