Commercial Description:
Part of the Bond Street Series. This Fresh Hop Pale Ale is all about celebrating the hop harvest in the fall. Fresh picked hops have to be added to the brew immediately and in abundance. Roughly 270 pounds of Crystal hops from Doug Weathers' farm outside Salem, Oregon will be added to the 50 barrel batch in addition to some dry kilned whole flower hops. That adds up to approximately 5.5 pounds of hops per barrel brewed.

Draught. A disappointment from Deschutes. Pale gold body, thin head. Bland body with not much happening. faint malt aroma. Oily unpleasant finish. Again, not really bad, but not worth drinking again.

22oz, grass, amber, frothy, medium bitterness, medium body, slick feel, average carbonation. If the descriptions above help you then more power to you. Personally, I love each and every seasonal brew. Rarely is there a flat out YUCK. The Hop Trip Ale is a joy and pleasure to see in the fridge. What a nice quaf! Yes it is a pale ale. Yes it is hoppy. And yes you will not be disappointed if you are a hop head and are not a snoot. Enjoy with extreme prejudice!

GABF 2007. Most of the fresh hop brews I’ve tried are a little underwhelming, and this one falls in line w/ my expectations. Very watery.

Poured a red-orange body with a two-finger white top. Great floral hoppiness in aroma. Some burnt malty caramel notes. Big hop presene faded in watery non-substantial finish.

22oz Bottle Pours out a very nice amber topped with a great off white head. A nice light hop aroma. Tast of light hops and a little bitter at the end. A good pretty nice body for a pale ale.

22oz Bottle with code 267 1054M (2007 Edition) Center poured into a 16oz American Pint Glass Aroma: Unmistakable pungent, almost, oily fresh hop aroma, prominent citrus and melon characteristics with a hint of malt lurking in the background. Appearance: Bright Reddish copper color, clear, sizeable off-white head with very little retention, head started to almost immediately dissipate with formation of larger and larger bubbles which then collapsed, quite unstable and interesting to watch and depositing a highly varied lacing. Flavor: Fresh hop character is foremost, predominating throughout - resinous, green, and earthy, with a bit of detectable malt in the mid palette that peaks and then falls off into a bitter hoppy finish. Some malt sweetness in the finish, which is off-dry but fairly well masked by the aggressive hopping. Mouthfeel: Medium body with a full feel given by the palate’s immediate reaction to the pungent fresh hopping, mid-carbonation, creamy textures and no detectable alcohol, and at 5.5% stated, as it should be. Overall: Nicely fresh hopped pale ale, not over the top with the bittering as some other commercially produced fresh hop ales, this one would be truly sessionable if not for the slight sweetness belying a small amount of residual sugar. A solid effort this year by Deschutes, but not as compelling as some of the previous examples, however it is excellent to see Deschutes sticking with the pale fresh hop as an alternative to some of the other over-the-top extreme fresh hop IPA’s.

NOV 2005 - Poured orange color with decent head and lacing. Aroma, flavor was grapefruit with a hint of grapefruit and a finishing of grapefruit. The mouthfeel was nice and rich. This beer reminds me of grapefruit.
