Commercial Description:
Part of the Bond Street Series. This Fresh Hop Pale Ale is all about celebrating the hop harvest in the fall. Fresh picked hops have to be added to the brew immediately and in abundance. Roughly 270 pounds of Crystal hops from Doug Weathers' farm outside Salem, Oregon will be added to the 50 barrel batch in addition to some dry kilned whole flower hops. That adds up to approximately 5.5 pounds of hops per barrel brewed.

Bomber with the code 275 094OG on the left lower part of the label, from stoutlover72, consumed on 1/28/07
Bottle conditioned, though fairly well-filtered prior to that, the beer shows a medium-bright copper-peach body with a medium-sized white head that recedes slowly to cover, leaving light lacing in patches, behind. Clarity is high, carbonation is quite profuse in the liquid in small streams.
Very dry nose, extremely so. Lemon-like notes add plenty of bitterness, while hints of tangerine juice and mimosas give a slight sugary edge as the pale malt sugars are lightly felt. Definite toastiness, though not overdone, makes things lightly sour towards the end, while floral notes from the hops are quite heady without being overly bitter or fruity. Interesting. Some soapiness and an almost bubble-gum and lemon note that I associate with crystal hops seems pervasive, as does a plasticy yeast. Definitely lightly phenolic on the end. No alcohol noted, and I enjoyed it, but it’s just way too dry and leafy, without enough round or bright flavors to give it more depth. The body seems filtered from the nose, not having that sumptuous, full aroma of solid malt backing.
Hops are definitely well-done to start, with cherries, lemons, tangerines and plenty of floral notes all dancing about. Honey is oddly matched with a bit of grainy, almost biscuit-like character, as the malt flavors pass through. The finish is alive with yeast plastics and a crunchy, diacetyl note of popcorn (not overly buttery or burnt though). Couldnt get passed that. The carbonation is very forceful and dosent seem to settle out easily or provide for a very creamy body, though perhaps that has something to do with the extreme attenuation, light toastiness and filtration. I really feel like I need to try another bottle of this, as I don’t see any of this in other reviews (do see the dryness though). I’m not a big fan of crystal hops though, so that may have something to do with it.

Pours a hazy amber. Nose is very earthy, with notes of pine and fresh grass. Soft, mildly sweet malt body is balanced by some nice, elegant hopping. This beer shows exceptional balance. WIsh I could make it my daily brew.

Poured a clear golden amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma was hoppy with notes of pine and flowers then turning to caramel and pine. The pine lasted even after the caramel. The flavor was malty and sweet with some more piney and floral hops. Some acidity. Moderate hop bitterness and mildly sweet on the finish. Medium bodied.

22 oz bottle. Second Fresh Hop this weekend. Pours a hazy orange, coppery color with a small cream colored head. After head fades lacing is present. Some caramel and definitely citrus flavors present. This beer is different and slightly better than the other Fresh Hop beer this weekend. Wish it was easier to get in my state.

Bottle sample at the Dilly Deli. Deep amber with a large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with great lacing. Moderate smooth citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Moderate balanced bittersweet flavor with a smooth bitter finish of average duration. Solid drinkable brew.

i love how people are rating this down as an IPA....this is a pale ale, and i thought an excellent version of one. a little more malty and sweet than i expected but nicely balanced with the hops. this was a very nice session type hop beer. not one that after one or two has blown your taste buds to hell.

Hazy orange with moderate amount of medium-fine lacing. Interesting cologne-like hoppy aroma. Woody, musky, lightly citrusy compared to other American hops. Fairly sweet body with light caramel and moderate floral hoppiness. A bit sweet for my tastes. Finishes moderately hoppiness, not too much bitterness. Pleasant, but perhaps not quite up to the acclaim.

Bottle. Pours a hazy light orange amber color with a nice white head on top. Aroma is full of fresh hops, grapefruit, citrus, caramel malt, and cookie malt. It smells like a fresh hop pale ale should. Flavor is mostly fresh hops with a nice sweet citrus taste coming in afterwards. The beer also has a nice sweet malt profile with caramel mostly coming in. Not much of a bitterness except at the very beginning which is pretty mild. A nice refreshing American Pale Ale. Doesn’t come with as much of a bite as a typical IPA does.
