Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Cloudy bronze colour. Moderately hoppy aroma, though the hops aren’t very lively, their aroma seems muted, flat and wet if that makes sense. Like the aroma, hop flavours are not well defined they tend to wallow in sweet malt and slowly peter out into a spicy hop finish. I suspect the bottle I tried was not the freshest, but it didn’t really show signs of past glory. Unlike most other Deschutes beers, this one did not really impress me.

Hints of butterscotch amid thick tangerine and apricot aromas. Heavy on the pine needles in the mouth. Oily thick with resinous, nettle-flavoured hops and orange peel bitterness. A dry woody finish. Thick and heavy going but I love it.

Tap at Father’s Office CC. Nose explodes all in my face like Andy Stone - orange juice, grapefruit, light pine, that clean NW ester. Color is a solid orange brown. Then the flavor happens and it’s really underwhelming: it’s like an orange-flavored tea. No sharpness or bitter hoppiness, just a round, slightly oxidized tea flavor. Now this could be the FO’s insistence on serving old-ass beer, or it could be Deschuttes’ fault. I am unsure.

Reviewed 11/10/2009 (bottle): Pours a clear light reddish color body, with a good sized off-white color head, very lasting. Smells very hoppy and citrusy. Has a light taste, pale and a little dusty, light hops, and some citrus. Very tasty, refreshing and light.

This is a too mild IPA wise for me. If I was going Deschutes IPA, I would go for Hop Trip. This is a decent if somewhat muted pale ale.

Bottle thanks to Bitbucket
Transparent red-amber with a thin yellow head. Grapefruit, pine, and light toast in the nose. Slightly soapy flavor of sharp citrus, mainly grapefruit, also some grain and burnt sugar. Moderate body, finish is dominated by citrus. Though singular and dominated by grapefruit, the fruit notes are uniquely potent.

Pours orange with light white head. Wow, I love the bitterness of this one. It’s like a Mirror Pond on steroids. Classic West Coast hop aromas and flavors, with more citrus than some of their other pale ales. A nice bite with a decent amount of resin in the finish. Very drinkable. I wish i could get it more often.
