Commercial Description:
After months of experimentation, energy and obsession, Deschutes Brewery’s brewers have triumphed once again with their newest creation - Inversion IPA. Inversion’s trio of American hops delivers an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Inversion is then dry-hopped for seven days resulting in an added hoppy kick. To balance the hop character of Inversion, Deschutes’ brewers used crystal and caraston malts that weave throughout the beer providing soft, complex caramel flavors. Inversion IPA is smooth and delicious. Just like clear days up on the mountain, Inversion IPA will deliver a path to higher ground. Inversion will be available year-round starting in early April on draft and in 6-packs. Inversion IPA is a phenomenal NW-style IPA, beckoning all beer drinkers and enticing IPA lovers to invert their world and find clarity above the routine of the everyday. Alc. By Vol. 6.8% IBUs 75

Cloudy bronze colour. Moderately hoppy aroma, though the hops aren’t very lively, their aroma seems muted, flat and wet if that makes sense. Like the aroma, hop flavours are not well defined they tend to wallow in sweet malt and slowly peter out into a spicy hop finish. I suspect the bottle I tried was not the freshest, but it didn’t really show signs of past glory. Unlike most other Deschutes beers, this one did not really impress me.

12oz. bottle, best before Jan. ’09. Freshly citric aroma, lightly sweet and floral with notes of grapefruit, pine and faint caramel. Standard, maybe, but appealing nonetheless. Mostly clear dark amber color with a lasting, foamy head. Flavor is fairly malty and sweet to start, more caramel and light brown sugar sweetness, turning hoppier and fruity, more citrus detected here, and finishing clean with a nice punch of bitterness. Smooth, creamy palate, soft effervescence, body is medium-full. Decently balanced, actually pretty tasty.

Bottle 355ml.
Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, grapefruit, orange. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily - syrupy, carbonation is soft. (050808)

12oz. bottle, best by 11/11/08 with thanks to bitbucket for one of many, many bonus beers from our trade! Pours a cloudy orange amber with a chunky three finger foamy tan head, excellent lacing and good retention. Aroma is pine/resin, light cirtus and a minimal whiff of caramel. Flavor is more fruity and floral, with only the slightest pine pushed to the background. Moderate hops bite that lingers a bit on the palate. Clean and easy drinking; nothing outstanding, but a decent IPA. Thanks again Bob!

Light bubbly head on amber. Aroma is very light; mellon and hops. Surprising strong nice hop flavour. LIght body with a touch of alcohol and a nice hop flavour.

Pours a reddish clear orange with a small off-white froth. Super resiny/piney aroma, fresh tree-sap, pine needles, ginger, botanicals and tea leaves. Unfortunately all those aromatics don’t work as well on the tongue. Taste of green tea/tea leaves, oily, resin, piney, and light honey sweetness. Quite floral, not terrible sweet with lots of bitterness. Oiley mouthful, medium/full with very smooth light carbonation. Well made, but too hard to drink being so floral.
