Commercial Description:
Jubelale is classified as a "Strong Ale" or an "English Olde Ale," and has ties to the traditional Celebration Ales of England. Characterized by a very large malt body and pronounced bitterness, Jubelale contains five different varieties of hops and a healthy amount of caramel. The perfect ale for surviving the long, cold nights of winter. Our tradition is having a different local artist design our Jubelale label & packaging each year. October - December - draft and bottles

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a long lasting 2 finger foamy tan head that leaves stellar lacing. Nose is toasted caramel and floral hops. Taste is caramel, burnt chocolate and citrus hops with some pine in the finish. Medium-to-full mouth feel. Very good.

12oz bottle courtesy of Reino poured into a tulip. Pours a dark brown that shows as a deep ruby when held up to the light. There is an impressive two-finger cream-colored head that sticks to the sides on the way down to a lasting cap. This is a gorgeous beer. The aroma is massively sweet with lots of caramel malts, molasses and dark fruit which gives way to some spiciness that lingers in the nose. I didn’t get a lot of hops in the aroma. There are some earthy hops that open up the taste with a slight bitterness on top of the massive caramel malt backbone that keeps the sweetness going throughout. The spices come out in the middle and really tingle the tongue in the finish with a peppery zing. The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied with strong carbonation that leads to a very velvety feel overall. This is one of the better winter beers I’ve had in a while and I’m not normally a fan of beers with decent spice profiles. This one pulls it off extremely well and I’m impressed overall.

2008 Bottle on 12/06/2008 at the James River Homebrew Club Christmas Party. Clear reddish amber body with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and fruit aroma with some molassas. Sweet caramel flavor with some light hops. Medium full body with moderate carbonation

2008 local bottle. Christmas beer that tasted very heavily of Christmas tree. The aroma and flavour were dominated by spruce and pine hops. I could not really find the spice and caramel notes. A little chocolate and coffee but very little compared to the hops. Okay but not my favourite of the style.

Sampled at Bier One in Newport, OR. Pretty beer, dark red-amber with a thin white head and nice lacing. Taking others’ word for the nose, couldn’t capture much. Flavors were roasty and dark fruit, but with some nutty and leathery dimensions too. Lightly bitter at the end. Satisfying.

After being unpleasantly surprised by my previous beer being spiced I decided to embrace spiced beer full on and open one of these up. Then I learned it wasn’t spiced. I guess that actually makes me happy. Dark brown pour with a very distinct coco powder and caramel aroma. The flavor is very chocolaty with a nice hop bitterness. Nice balance between the sweet chocolate and caramel flavors and bitter finish. I dig it.

Bottle. Pours a dark brownish-red with a thick, bubbly, off-white head. Sweet and sharp aroma, of malt, dark fruits, and hops. Taste is sharp, of malt, fruit, hops, and pine. Lingering sharpness. Tasty.

Bottle. Pours a dark red-brown with a large, clingy, pillowy, frothy, tan head that slowly fades. Taste is of malt, caramel, hops, fruit, citrus and some alcohol(is more apparent as it warms). Fairly sweet, with a dry finish. Has some bitterness to it. Well balanced and easy to drink. Similar aroma, but some alcohol comes through. A pretty good winter beer, especially when it is on sale (picked a 6 pack up for about $6).
