| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 1, 2009 noticed the "best after april 2010" after I cracked this, oh well... oak is quite heavy on the aroma, mixed with luscious sweet malts, fruity esters and a touch of alcohol. Flavors are much the same but more pronounced. appropriate bitterness, carbonation and mouthfeel. good stuff, but should have kept it another year I think. aisha (2), New Zealand does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 1, 2009 strong amber appearance. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Dark brown...no red...no...burgundy....no..I don’t know. It’s an interestign mix of dark brown but has obvious red in it. Only dissapointing thing about the appearance is the lack of head, but it’s a barelywine so I accept. Dry oaky aroma on top of a nice luscious malt body. Has some sweet almost fruit like nuance along with a bit of vanilla There is some booze in this...I mean, it doesn’t hide itself. Ends up being distracting, like the thin body left the flavour with nothing to cling to and the alcohol just took over. In fact, only the dry oak and some big of vanilla are left over from the wonderful aroma. Cavie (1490), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 30, 2009 Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Gorgeous ruby color with a soft off-white head. Lots of aged elements like dark cherry and tart berry on the nose. A small bit of wet dog also that I can’t seem to get away from. Hmmm, a very accessible taste. Sweet flavors are first felt with woody notes and heavy flavors. Finish is incredibly smooth. No rough feelings after that. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2009 Poured a clear dark brown with some reddish hues and not much head at all. Aroma was very rich caramelly, dark fruits, some alcohol notes, a light vanilla oak, and some sort of red wine notes. A whole lot of bitterness coming through this one.Flavor was very bold. Strong complex malt flavors and sweetness. Still some alcohol coming though. Pretty tastey and unique barleywine though.
