12 ounce bottle courtesy of Sparky27. Thanks! Pours a deep, dark brown color with a medium brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, sweet sugary notes and light notes of nuts and coffee. Taste is roasted malts, sweet coffee notes and a bitter leafy hop finish. Smooth, medium bodied. Refreshing and very sessionable. Good stout.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a creamy beige head. Rich chocolate malt, coffee and a presence of fruity tones. Such a good balance, nice creamy mouthfeel. A subtle roastiness comes through as this warms too. More chocolate in the finish. A delicious stout.

Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a small creamy light tan head that diminishes quickly leaving decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee, dark fruit, and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with a dry rich malt with roast and coffee with a nice dry finish. Hides alcohol well making it easy to drink, a good Stout from Deschutes.

Rich jet black. Thick coffee crema head that lingers like a pint of guiness. Light smokey feel with a wonderful balance on roasted malts some light pine hops and a dark creamy texture with strong tobacco hints. Served warmer and it really opened this up in its full glory

Bottle. Pours an even black, maybe with a slight reddish hue, and a foamy tan head that sits around for quite a while. Smells roasty and stouty. Maybe a little booze, too. Taking a sip... This is a pretty heavy stout, actually - very malty and sweet, a totally different character from the drier Black Butte. Nice to see some good variety, even in the similar styles. There’s a pleasant bit of roasted malt blended with the sweetness along with a nice chocolate/coffee bitterness character. For being on the standard lineup for Deschutes, this is a nice big warming stout. Happy to try this one.

Pours a rich deep black with a finger or so of tan head. Aroma is of crisp, dry roasted malts and weak coffee. Flavor is more coffee, with a somewhat medicinal quality in the mid-palate, before settling back to coffee, and light baker’s chocolate bitterness. There are also earthy and leather notes. An interesting stout. Really dry, and so it makes me continually reach for my glass for another whistle-wetting sip. Nice.

Near black, thin lingering tan head, light lacing. Aroma is sugary sweet, some milk chocolate and caramel, good roast. Flavour is of dark fruits, burnt cake, some bakers chocolate, roasty. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, bitter, roasty.

Aged fine. A nice milk stout.

355ml bottle obtained in a trade with JohnnyJ, thanks Jonathan.
Opened on March 13, 2009.
