| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Updated: Dec 13, 2009Bottle as shown. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a small creamy light tan head that diminishes quickly leaving decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt with coffee, dark fruit, and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with a dry rich malt with roast and coffee with a nice dry finish. Hides alcohol well making it easy to drink, a good Stout from Deschutes. thehurt01 (208), Denver, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours an even black, maybe with a slight reddish hue, and a foamy tan head that sits around for quite a while. Smells roasty and stouty. Maybe a little booze, too. Taking a sip... This is a pretty heavy stout, actually - very malty and sweet, a totally different character from the drier Black Butte. Nice to see some good variety, even in the similar styles. There’s a pleasant bit of roasted malt blended with the sweetness along with a nice chocolate/coffee bitterness character. For being on the standard lineup for Deschutes, this is a nice big warming stout. Happy to try this one. gorditoabd (174), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Pours a rich deep black with a finger or so of tan head. Aroma is of crisp, dry roasted malts and weak coffee. Flavor is more coffee, with a somewhat medicinal quality in the mid-palate, before settling back to coffee, and light baker’s chocolate bitterness. There are also earthy and leather notes. An interesting stout. Really dry, and so it makes me continually reach for my glass for another whistle-wetting sip. Nice. radiomgb (2068), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
