Commercial Description:
Unconventional. Uncompromising. A Deschutes original. This IPA style beer utilizes hops in a way never attempted by our brewers, evident in both aroma and flavor. The Cascade and Centennial hops are balanced by 2 types of crystal malts as well as American pale malt and German pilsner malt. The wind beneath your wings, perhaps… IBU’s: 63

22 oz. bottle purchased at QFC. Pours a beautiful amber color with an off-white foamy head. Aroma: Bold hops, pine, and citrus. Flavor: Grapefruit, sweet malt, and the right amount of hops.

22 oz bottle courtesy of a trade with riversideAK. Thanks, Alex. Pours an almost transparent orangish amber, a bit fiery, decent offwhite head that settles to a small layer, lacing is decent overall. Aromas are crisp cereal and caramel malt sweetness underneath a moderate grapefruit and floral hop profile. Hops are a bit more subdued, the malt not too strong, mixing in some pale malt mellow sweetness. Lemony citrus, with some grapefruit taking backseat show up more clearly. Initial is lighter side of medium bodied, a deep taste shows a lighter sweetness than anticipated, the pale and caramel malt combination lightens the body, mellows out the sweetness, making a more grainy and caramel sweetness mix well with lemony and floral hop bitterness of a decent level of bitter. Towards the end more actual citrus flavor comes out, but the bitterness remains at a touch lighter. This IPA is lighter fare, preaching flavors over any sort of addictive bitterness. Lemony and gumball work in further into the body, as this beer becomes quite the sessioner over a one-and-done extreme beer. Malt hybrid profile works for me. I like this beer as a citrusy and lightly sweet finish leave a pleasant aftertaste with decent to light bitterness. Could have used a touch of more hops, but overall a good beer.

22 oz bottle. Color is a deep gold with good carbonation and a very nice off white head. Aroma of fresh hops. Taste is crisp, clean and hoppy. Starting with a lighter medium body it goes down with a crisp feel. Finish is light on the malt with just a hint of caramel then a fresh floral hop flavor that seems to bump up the sweetness a bit and lets just a whisp of citrus come out. After taste is clean with a mellow bitterness. This is a very good IPA, so well balanced and refreshing you could drink it all day.

22 oz bottle. Deschutes may have brewed this unconventionally, but it just tastes like an IPA to me. I don’t taste the originality they speak of. A very good, even excellent, IPA, but not much different than other great IPAs I’ve tried. Not much aroma to speak of, excellent palate and flavor.

Bottled. A citrus and slightly floral nose. Reddish gold color. Nice bitterness with a touch of sweetness, a taste of caramel. Light for an IPA, very clean.

On tap at the Gingerman in Ft. Worth. Clear look, golden orange color with a lacy white head. The smell is pine, earth, hops, caramel, and malts. The taste is a low bitterness, sweet, some earthy hops, and some fruits. Sort of boring.

On draft at the brewery 6/26/09. Pours clear gold with touch of orange. Citrus hops with touch of lavendar and honey aroma. Great sweetness up front followed by a balanced bitterness. Light bodied, but too carbonated for me.

22oz bottle. Copper with a lasting off-white head. Lemon zest, grapefruit, green dankness, and light pine aroma. The flavor has light caramel, orange, grapefruit and plant flavors. Finishes medium bitter with some candied citrus and a drying feel. medium bodied with higher carbonation. A nice IPA. I like the hop flavor, though the mouthfeel holds it back a little.
