Delirium (495), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 8, 2008 Updated: Jul 30, 2008Bomber. Pours black with a large very dark brown head. Aroma is roasty malt, with lots of coffee and chocolate, and a bit of wood and alcohol. Flavor is quite bold, strong semi-sweet malt with substantial hopping and a bit of licorice, nuts, and vanilla. Long finish, with a bit of alcohol bite mixed in. Excellent. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA May 7, 2008 Opaque black body with a rich mocha head. Flavor is bitter, chocolatey and roasty with a good deal of alcohol. Tasty, but just another Impy in the grand scheme of things. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA May 4, 2008 From bottle - 2007 : Pours very dark black, with a dark brown finger of rocky head. Sticky lacing all around the glass. Roasted licorice in the nose, with some chocolate and vanilla. Deep taste, lots of chocolate and coffee. Very thick dark feel to the taste. Has a little alcohol taste toward the end. Roasted finish and aftertaste, with some chocolate and coffee. Pretty good Impy Stout. akevitt (97), Valhalla, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2008 Thanks to BDR for sharing! 2007 Vintage. The beer was opaque black with high viscosity and luscious thick brown foam. In the aroma I got molasses, roast malt, and mild hops. The flavor was dominated by molasses, subtle anise, roast malt, and alcohol. The beer was smooth, thick, and delicious! gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA May 4, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2008Bottle, courtesy Gillard. Finally got to drink some of this. Pours a dark black, impenetrable by light, with plenty of lacing and a decent-sized head. Roasted goodness in the nose, some licorice, caramel, obvious chocolate, with vanilla and peanut butter mango. Wowzers. Roasted notes strike the tongue first. Warming alcohol, hazelnut. Coffee and chocolate are there and good. Balanced extremely well, very tasty, and so drinkable it’s unfair. MadMan (497), Tempe, Arizona, USA May 2, 2008 Bottle. Enjoying my 2nd bottle in 2 days. Pours black with thin dark brown head. Aroma is rich and roasty with notes of vanilla and whiskey. Flavor is moderately bitter throughout, with some bitter cocoa and coffee. There is some vanilla before it comes to a somewhat hoppy and chocolately finish. Mouthfeel is on the creamy milk-like side. Very nice, and one of the better imperial stouts. hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Apr 30, 2008 Into a Duvel glass went this bew from a 22 oz bottle with wax seal. I was jet black with a bit rich tan head and thick lacing. Nose of sweet burnt malts, chocolate, ripe fruit, and alcohol. Rich creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is complex, with bittersweet chocolate and spices. Great bitter finish. A very good beer. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 29, 2008 07 bottle courtesy boltz7555 poured into a snifter. Pours inky black with a thin dark tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, coffee, chocolate malt and a hint of vanilla. Taste is smooth chocolate malt, roasted grain, vanilla. Big thick chocolaty mouth feel. Finishes roasty and chocolaty. While you get a lot of the malts and chocolate, this is a very smooth and well balanced Impy. Definitely sneaky alcohol, very well masked by the complex flavors. Just a delightful beer.
