The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of chocolate, medium notes of caramel, and light notes of bourbon, leading to a bitter finish.

Jul 16, 2008 Bottled at Petalax Beer Festival. Pitch black, firm dark brown head. Sweet and full bodied with tarry licorice and syrupy coffee. Almost completely dominated by sugar and syrup. The oak os in balanced levels, but the sweetness not. It gets inky with crude oil and tar, feels sticky and messy. I quite adore most of Deschutes beers, this is just, well not good.

Sep 9, 2007 (Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of moejuck. Pours completely black and opaque with a creamy, light brown head. Hard roasted malt aroma. Medium-bodied with very burned, coffeeish malt accents and a distinct malt astringent bitter finish. Very solid. 070907

This is pretty fucking black, with a medium brown head. The aroma shows milk chocolate, pecans, wood, alcohol and a touch of ill-fitting whisky. Full body. Creamy, milk chocolatey. Light woody hop notes and standard impy roast. Clean, full-flavoured and very typical PNW hoppy impy type. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to seperate it from the pack either.
