Draught, Archer Ale House

This is pretty fucking black, with a medium brown head. The aroma shows milk chocolate, pecans, wood, alcohol and a touch of ill-fitting whisky. Full body. Creamy, milk chocolatey. Light woody hop notes and standard impy roast. Clean, full-flavoured and very typical PNW hoppy impy type. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to seperate it from the pack either.

Black night color; big creamy head, beige, leaving a nice lace while reducing. Perfect aroma of milky coffee, coffee truffles, barley coffee (a substitute for real coffee), vanilla icecream. Silky and seducing body; strong roasted malt flavor, chocolate and quite evident liquorice, light vanilla; salty, thick; the final is powerful, bitter, with strong roasted malt presence and even saltier; light acidity from the roasted malt; there is a comfortable alcohol warmth. Mighty. It deserves the appreciation.

2006 release, and it’s been in my cellar for more than a year now, thank you Tom/After4ever, it’s wonderful! We drink it to celebrate my new position as top woman rater here on RB, its the beginning of February 2008. It’s pitch black with a huge, nice, creamy mocha-brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate and hints of oak/vanilla. The mouthfeel is oily. The flavour is smooth, velvety seducing with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, licorice, light bitterness and very light oak/whisky and the finish has a roasted bitterness. It’s lovely, complex and very full bodied!!!

2007 bottle @ DTS. Roastaroma, creamy, chocolate and a bit salty. Espresso flavor with dark chocolate and cream. Sweet but also salty finish with licorice and laurel. Well balanced beer.

Bottle. A black beer with a big beige head. The aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and rye bread, so is the taste. Medium body with a dry light alcoholic finish.

A Mes rate. Bottle at home.
Black as night with a thin tan head. Massive chewy coffee, loads of wood and alcohol but much more integrated than I was expecting. The wooden notes are done really well done and I’m so glad the bourbon is tolerable. Still it is a little too boozy. Aggressive burnt caramel finish. Strangely thin in the mouth. Would certainly be better with some age but still it’s a bloody good beer.
