Nov 29, 2003 Very nice roasted malt flavor. Good head and creamy finish. Belgian lace was noticable with a nice bitterness.

does not count  Jan 23, 2007 Good beer, if you like malty, sweet, dark beers (which I do). Had a pint after dinner at the Brew Pub and after two pints of the Detroit Dwarf Zwickel. So perhaps it suffered after that excellent brew.

Sep 3, 2008 on tap-pours a light tan head and dark red color. Aroma is sweet medium malt/some musty/peat/chocolate. Taste is lots of sweet medium malt/some musty/peat/chocolate, a little fruit, some earthy hops bite. Medium body.

Jan 19, 2006 at the brewpub. certainly nothing wrong with this beer. it’s DBC’s flagship ale, so they can’t go out on too much of a limb. after all, they need the mainstream customers who visit on tigers’ and lions’ gamedays. caramel and dark malt, and some cascade and other north american hops - otherwise, plain. if you like malty red ales, you’ll love this one!
