Grapefruit hop aroma required some effort to pull from the glass. Strong consistent hop flavour with some sweetness at the edges. Not a long finish. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Sampled from a growler courtesy of skaughty. Pours a slightly hazy copper bronze with a thick white head with nice retention and lace. Aroma is a fresh blend of western hops sprinkled with grainy caramel malt. Starts mildly sweet and exhibits good balance for an IPA before turning to a hoppy bitter finish. An enjoyable and very drinkable brew, but could use a little more complexity or depth of flavor. I’d love this for a session beer though. Thanks again Scott! skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA

Welcome to the pine forest! The aroma goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on....The head is frothy and stays with the aroma. The taste is almost *too* fresh, as the taste and mouthfeel are almost leafy. This is a fairly rare and rough, yet amazing IPA.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 27, 2004 RBSG Portland 2004. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is light amber. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie), heavily hoppy (grapefruit, resin, flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, moderately astringent. Once again I am disappointed by a Top 50 American beer...the aroma is nice enough for the style and source, but it’s unbalanced in the mouth and otherwise not all that pleasant on the palate. Good IPAs in the States do exist, even for my tastes, but this isn’t one that strikes my fancy. I’d much rather have both of the Buckeye IPAs I sampled at RBSG, for example, especially the 76.
