riversideAK (1569), Shoreline, Washington, USA May 8, 2008 Copper pour with little head. Aroma is definitely cidery, with some spice, and some alcohol. The flavor is more spice, fruit, apples, bananas, candi sugar, alcohol. Surprisingly easy to drink at 11%. Nice try.
Magjayran (1109), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle from ’05 I believe. Let me start this off by saying I’m not entirely sure that the brewers intended this beer to get sour. But it is and I like sour. Aroma is strange on first sniff, nothing like I expected and reminded me of vegetable soup. Not good. I sniffed again and picked up some light pineapple and prune. Weird. Third sniff brings up some fruit salad with tomato. Unique. The flavor isn’t actually sour, just tart. Well a little sour. Lots of tropical fruit, and a bit of flemish sour. Stewed tomatoes and beef stock at the finish. I like it even if I think it’s all a mistake. robforbes (708), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 15, 2008 pours a semi-hazy light copper with a medium cream colored head that goes away quickly, good lacing.
smell of nuts, prunes, raisins, grape, roasted caramel.
taste is thick, oily, tart, pear, prune, some caramel, some nuts, some spice. troopie (476), USA Jul 19, 2008 Bottle. Poured deep copper with a thick lasting white head. Much lacing. Aroma of candy sugar and caramel. Rich caramel taste with sweet malt. Lasting strong finish with alcohol warmth Sleeper (46), Washington, USA Jun 22, 2008 Pours with nice head, dark amber color. Smells fruity. Tastes of plums and other fruits. A good belgian which is easily drinkable. ChainGangGuy (1519), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 13, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amber body with a thin, off-white head.
Smell: Fruity nose smelling of cherries and plums seasoned with cinnamon and other various spices. Some toasted caramel, too.
Taste: Dark carmelly maltiness with some toastiness to it. A smidgen of candi sugar. Oh, and the spices. Oh, and that fruitiness. Slight doughy yeastiness. Some mild hop bitterness. Sticky, fruity, semi-dry finish.
Mouthfeel: A bit beyond medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Fairly tasty and rather easy to drink given the alleged ABV. Not bad at all!
