emacgee (1129), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jun 18, 2008 From liquidsolutions. Pours a dark black brew that allowed some light in the pour, sits black in the glass. Not that viscous and the head is thin and dark tan, dissipating quickly. The nose is sweet, light coffee, grain, not very dimensional. Roast is evident. The flavor is roasty, some coffee, soy sauce is THERE, grain, some other minor off flavors. Decent mouthfeel, not really that viscous or full, light coffee and little carbonation. The finish has coffee and soy sauce and leaves some minor off flavors. Overall, not what I would pick as my favorite RIS but not the worst I’ve had.
tronraner (1431), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Sep 17, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours amber-black with small tan head. The aroma is roadside-diner coffee, almonds, tree bark, and a light cattiness. The flavor is raisin, white chocolate, weak coffee, mixed nuts, a little bit of ash. It dries out substantially into the finish, with some spicy haylike hops and a touch of soy sauce. Decent beer. oreogobbler (173), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 12, 2008 Good for the style, a bit thin but not to overwhleming. Very roasty and refreshing. Not to complex and enjoyable. spikester (435), Salem, Oregon, USA Sep 5, 2008 Another one of Dick’s middle of the road beers. A good average example of this style. Lots of coffee-cocoa-light vanilla flavors. Little head, no lacings. Alcohol fairly well hidden. Minor soy sauce flavor. Decent average pour. Plenty of hop bitterness in the finish. If this was the only Impy Stout available it would be O.K. NoiZe (945), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 17, 2008 Tasted @ the Brouwers Cafe in Seattle.
Black colored brew. Sweet malty, coffee aroma. Some hops. Flavor was roasted malts, coffee, sweet chocolate and some hops. Nice one.
marcus (1051), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 11, 2008 This black ale poured with a nice tan head and a strong malt aroma. There is a very riich roasted malt and chocolate flavor with a pleasant bitter finish.
