akaufman (16), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 12, 2007 One of the better porters available in grocery stores in the Seattle area. Gromit (449), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Feb 28, 2004 Gotta love it when you find a new beer. I'm guessing this has very limited distribution right now as the only state listed for refund is Oregon, so that means California isn't even getting it. No bottling date.
Nice unassuming label on the 12 bottle. The beer guy at the store commented that they're getting bombers next week. I *do* want to register a whine right here about those stupid top-loading cases that this came in. I *hate* those. First, it's a PITA to get the bottles out, and more importantly you can't use them to bring the bottles back to the store for the refund because they depend on the caps to hold the bottles in place.
Oh yeah, the beer...
Pours a very dark brown with a respectable head and very little lacing.
Smells of caramel and coffee, mostly.
Taste is caramel, coffee, and a hint of hops, but very complex. There's other flavors dancing around my tongue.
Moutfeel has a nice mineral sensation but very little carbonation. Drinkability is very high because this is a very fine example of the style. A damn fine Porter, this is, and another great example of why it's great to live in the PNW! troopie (516), USA Mar 17, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown with big lasting beige head. Amoma of cocoa and malt. Malty flavour, notes or toffee, coffee and chocolate. Malty finish with balanced hoppy bite. I would definitely drink this again. Bradrcr (617), Renton, Washington, USA Apr 28, 2008 4/6/08 On draught at the Budd Bay Café. Aroma is light chocolate with some caramel sweetness, blended in roast character and light PNW hop flora. Appearance is copper brown with a moderate maintained off white head and good lacing. Flavor is rich with sweet caramel, light roast sourness, and low but noticeable bittering. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low carb feel and medium creaminess. Overall, quite good, very easy drinking, and it’s just refreshing to try a porter for once that starts where browns leave off rather than pushing the limits of a stout. riversideAK (1653), Shoreline, Washington, USA Mar 9, 2007 Beer had an aroma of coffee. Beer poured dark dark brown. Initial coffee taste, some mocha, and then some really nice hops. This beer was alot hoppier than any other porter I have ever had, and because of this, was very unique. It was easy to drink like most Dick’s beers, and I wish I had some more.
