Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

On tap at Dieu Du Ciel. Black pour with 1.5 finger beige head that forms tiny lasting foaming bubbles. Lacing is nitro-like in its quality. Aroma is loaded with vanilla, dark chocolate, and massive quantities of roast, which is augmented by the creamy chocolate. Epic amounts of milk chocolate, vanilla, and a backbone of sweet roast. Coffee, cream, chocolate and vanilla prevail. Palate is very thick and full, culminating with a semi-dry, semi sweet coating finish. Simply masterful. 06/28/09 Bottle conditioned re-rate

On tap Mondiale 09. Finally! Very sweet aroma - milk chocolate - amazing. Pitch black, thick creamy brown head speckled white head. Interesting taste - milk chocolate, sour edge, milky finish. So much flavour at this ABV. A great session stout and one of the best stouts, imperial or otherwise, I am likely to try. Did not disappoint after years of looking for it!

341 ml bottle from a trade with Glouglouburp. pours black with an everlasting ta head. aroma of roasted malt vanilla and chocolate. the aroma is a touch shy. the flavour is huge with roasted malt bitterness leading to a dark chocolate center and a sweet vanilla finish. the flavour grows and baloons in your mouth. great complex flavours with a silky smooth mouthfeel equals a 5 in palate. the best stout ive ever had for session purposes. mindblowing. thx dany!!

Cette bière aux flaveurs prononcées de cacao et de vanille et très raffraichissante pour une stout. Elle se boit facilement, autant en hiver que par une chaude journée d’été.

341ml bottle. Pitch black with a medium brown foamy head. Aroma is dark chocolate a bit coffee and a bit roasted malt. Some sweetness also. Carbonation is tickling the palate. Funny feeling. Flavor is really well balanced with a slight bitterness all along (cacao bitterness). A bit of a dry feeling on the mouth like that of dark chocolate. After a few sips, I’m getting this vanila aroma. Quite powerfull actually.... making me wonder why it was not present right after the pour. Taste is slight roasted malt, slight dark chocolate. I can barely fell the alcohol (a bit more at the end). Taste is not as powerful as many stouts which make it a bit harder to judge for my not so experienced palate but It is almost certainly the best stout I’ve had thus far. Thumbs up for DDC !

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black stout with large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of vanilla is dominating with some notes of black chocolate. Taste is also dominated by rich vanilla notes with some black chocolate and also some lightly bitter roasted malt notes at the end. Body is full with great carbonation. Very well done with some bourbon resemblance which might come from the vanilla. I guess I am slightly disappointed with all the hype that had been surrounding this one but still very good nonetheless.

Had a pint of this on site @ BrewPub. Pours thick black body with dark brown head. Thick creamy mouth feel. Not lacking in any aspect, this is one big sucker.
