Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 2007-09-22, 7-3-7-3-14=34
Black color. Phenolic aroma, sweet, roasted malt. Medium body strength, but round, with a unique flavor of dark chocolate. Monodimensional, good, not impressive.

Black color. Strong aroma of medium chocolate. Sweet flavor, medium-light body, very strong chocolatey flavor (reminds me the chocolate Easter eggs), original. Good.

Draft @ DDC. What a delicious beer. If only it were available locally. Great chocolate nose with smooth balanced taste. Should have had several more but I had to try a draft Peche Mortel and a Rigor Mortis ABT. The bartender said they were working on bottling it without losing its ethereal qualities. Hope they succeed soon.

On tap, DDC. Appearance is near black, with an attractively smooth tan head. Aroma is of vanilla, cocoa, roasts, and some malt. Flavor is a sublime mixture of vanilla, coffee, cream and roasts. Mid-palate mellows the flavor notes allowing time for proper contemplation. All while introducing a touch of sweetness. The finish is slightly bitter, but firmly flavorful and roasty. Overall, I was very satisfied with Aphrodesiac, though I prefer St Ambroise’s Oatmeal Stout by a hair.

On tap @ DDC, 2 glasses. Black w/ creamy head. Sweet roasty aroma. Flavor - roasty, Dry, cacao, vanilla. Very good, smooth/creamy. Super drinkable. Now my favorite stout and I won’t be able to get it anywhere.

Poured @ DDC. Pours a very dark, chocolate black color; creamy, light brown head with perfect retention and lacing that coats the glass; great pour. Plenty of cocoa, burnt / roasted malts, and bitter chocolate in the aroma; touches of vanilla; more pronounced as it warms. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: beautifully creamy, velvety presence; roasted / burnt malts, bitter chocolate, cocoa, and hints of vanilla / vanilla bean; just a beautiful mouthfeel showing a very tasty, complex, nutty stout; intensely drinkable and generous overall; excellent stuff. Lengthy finish: toasty malt (lasting forever), breadiness, and bitter chocolate; dry cocoa throughout. The vanilla presence is, generally, very soft, secondary.

[1392-20080530] Tap. Chocolatey boozy toasted malt aroma. Dark brown black body with a thick creamy light tan head, nice lacing and a cool cascading effect when you tip the glass. Rich milk chocolatey toasted malt flavour. Smooth rich full body. Lovely start to the festival!

Aside: I’ve been hearing about this elusive beer for three years now, so it’s amusing to me that I get to try it now, before having gone to the brewpub...
