[bottle] At last.. [I’ve waited so damn long to try this beer-- I’ve traveled 4+ hours to the pub only to miss it by a single day] Pours a nice black color, with a creamy coffee-colored head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate and plenty of vanilla. Flavors are on the border of milkshake territory, but in the most delicious way possible. Huge roasted malt flavors, with plenty of chocolate malt and slight caramel sweetness. Overall, this beer is on the sweet side of things, but still really shines with the blend of chocolate and vanilla flavors. Very well done, and for me, well worth the wait!

Dec 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours near black with a thin tan head. Sweet and roasty aroma with notes of milk chocolate and vanilla. The flavor has roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, and caramel. Delightful.

Dec 30, 2009 351 mL bottle. Deep chestnut brown with a lovely tan head. The aroma is lovely and complex - roast, vanilla, milk chocolate, and licorice. Much the same for the flavour, except that the chocolate comes to the front a little more, and there is only a hint of licorice. Nice balance, though. Slightly grainy mouthfeel. Good body and carbonation. Incredibly appealing beer.

Dec 28, 2009 A big fat thanks to nbutler11 (I think) for this appearance. Nose is full, dry, almost tart coffee. There is the faintest rounding of flavor - as with vanilla or nibs - but mostly this is more tart and concentrated than even Peche. Jet black, whose flavor is stark like a brick with charcoaled coffee and not much else. I missed the faint hops, cocoa and v-beans.

Dec 28, 2009 12oz bottle from Smoker’s Den in Bennington, VT: Pours to an opaque, black colored body with a medium dark tan colored head. The aroma is sweet dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt, kind of a dry cocoa husk scent, without any real detectable hops. Flavor shows roasted malt & bittersweet chocolate up front, with some dark bitter chocolate, very dark roasted malt, and hints of vanilla towards the middle, finishing with notes of unsweetened dark chocolate and vanilla bean. Full-bodied, medium carbonated. What I really like about this one is how well the flavors compliment each other without trying to be imperial, extreme, or really overwhelming. The body is lighter than I expected it to be, which makes it more refreshing, and the chocolate and vanilla flavors end up being very ephemeral, which drives me back for another sip.

Dec 28, 2009 Bottle from Keg Liquor. Poured black color with medium creamy tan head that lasted with excellent lacing. Aroma is very complex with roasted malt, vanilla and bourbon. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy chocolate bittersweet flavor and moderate to heavy complex dark sweet bourbon finish of long duration. Standout complex beer for dessert or with a cigar.

Dec 27, 2009 Pours dark brown with a brown head. The aroma is sweet milk chocolate and anise. A touch of acidic black coffee. The flavor is very dry and roasted with notes of spices, licorice, chocolate, and coffee. A very distinctive and complex stout. Ashy finish. This would go great with some biscotti.

Dec 27, 2009 Bottle at Chriso’s Kook Tasting 09. Thanks to Crosling for this one. Labelled as Aphrodite. Black, tan head. Vanilla choc coconut aroma. Slightly powdery choc. Quite a lot of vanilla,, but I thought it was drinkable enough, just too much powdery choc. Dry finish. Yes, fails a bit in the mouth.
