Pours a mostly transparent, chocolately black color with tannic hues and a two finger head of fine bubbled, beige foam. Rich chocolate-cocoa notes on top of a firm roast malt base. The vanilla is noticeable, but plays more of a back-up role to the chocolate and roast. It’s kind of three dimensional in that way, chocolate, roast, vanilla - in that order. No real hop or yeast characters present in the aroma, leaving a nice, clean impression. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a somewhat thin, yet pleasing texture. The flavors are more of the same from the nose - chocolate, roast, and vanilla, in order of strength. Finishes clean and chocolately, with a touch of milky sweetness. Great flavors; my only complaint is the body doesn’t really stand up to the richness of the flavors. No oxidation detected, but I think some (or more) flaked barley or oats could really enhance the mouthfeel while keeping the same flavor integrity. Thanks, James!

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Aroma is HUGELY chocolate with a big cocoa aroma that is heavenly. The more you breathe in the aroma the richer the chocolate gets. The flavor does not dissapoint, but instead follows with much more than you could ever expect. Pure rich chocolate goodness. Not candylike, not overly sweet, but instead a chocolate designed only to be quaffed in beer. The vanilla flavor comes through in the end, and the mouthfeel is so silky smooth. A purely wonderful experience that should be enjoyed by all. chicagodri (1068), Chicago, Illinois, USA

This beer was a lot less sweet than I thought it would be, but it was really well done. The cocoa leaves a bitter taste, but the vanilla balances it out. Good beer, will give it another try for sure. coyotehunter (557), , Michigan, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2009 This beer pours an angry dark and has a smallish medium tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, vanilla, dark fruit and a bit of smoke. It is a very pleasant aroma and I wish it was a bit more pronounced. Flavor is also chocolate and coffee dominated with vanilla. Some hops. Feel is powdery but smooth and this is a dry beer. Aftertaste is mildly bitter with cappuccino. Very nice! | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Thanks Tampa Crew for sharing. Pours dark brown/ black with a tan head. Nose is roast, malt, chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, cherry, and depth. Flavor is the same sweeping through with Barry White’s smoothness and an awesome palate finishing with vanilla, chocolate, and fruit. Medium to full bodied and pretty darned good. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Bottle. Silky, velvety pure black body that seems to rolls into the glass as one continuous mass that pushes and pulls at is spacial occupancy until finally settling in. Very thin, off-white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is rich and elegant with notes of vanilla beans, subtle roasted malts and rich dry cocoa powder. The flavors are spot on with the smell with silky, oily vanilla (almost caramel) and lightly toasted pecan or walnuts that give it just the slightest bitter dryness that shores up any oily feel. As this beer warms the vanilla becomes robust and the cocoa verges on a roasted espresso. Really really a great beer. Juelze (912), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
