Commercial Description:
Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

11.5 oz bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is dominated by chocolate and vanilla, just like the bottle says. Bittersweet chocolate flavor with slight vanilla heat. Full body with average carbonation and a thick creamy mouth feel. This is a great beer and the aroma is amazing, but taste more like chocolate with a bit of beer instead of beer with a bit of chocolate. Still very good.

Bottle. Silky, velvety pure black body that seems to rolls into the glass as one continuous mass that pushes and pulls at is spacial occupancy until finally settling in. Very thin, off-white head that dissipates quickly. The nose is rich and elegant with notes of vanilla beans, subtle roasted malts and rich dry cocoa powder. The flavors are spot on with the smell with silky, oily vanilla (almost caramel) and lightly toasted pecan or walnuts that give it just the slightest bitter dryness that shores up any oily feel. As this beer warms the vanilla becomes robust and the cocoa verges on a roasted espresso. Really really a great beer.

Aphrodite bottle. Pours a rich black color with thick light brown frothy head. Aroma is of cocoa power, milk chocolate, vanilla, light coffee and mild hops. Taste is milk chocolate, vanilla, light roasted coffee and light hop taste. Finishes creamy and silky smooth. This is one helluva stout!

pours pitch black with small tan head. aroma is mild coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, burnt malts. drinks insanely smooth with a very pleasant mild coffee and vanilla coming upfront and a long lingering milk chocolate. as it warms the chocolate reminds me of nesquick or something of that nature. very very smooth and easy drinking and utterly amazing

Pours a deep, rich, opaque sable with a thick, fine-bubbled, fairly persistent light tan head. Aroma is rich, smoky and oily with hints of fine coffee and molasses. Flavor is like high grade coffee with hints of unsweetened chocolate and vanilla and a whisper of sweetness. Texture is smooth and fizzy, leaving a bit of hoppy bitterness.

A 12 oz. bottle courtesy of "hannont". Colour... dark brown with no head. Nose... semi-sweet chocolate chips! I think Guittard , chocolate chips. Palate... frothy with loads of bittersweet chocolate, anise, a slightly tangy feel around the edges of the soft palate and a long bitter finish.

Bottle. Black pour with tan head. Awesome "dessert" beer. Sweet flavor and aroma however not cloying. Flavor full of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, and belgian sugars.

Pours a nice 2 finger chocolate head. Body is pitch black in color. Head retention and lacing are good Aroma is of rich, roasted malt. Chocolate and a tiny bit of coffee are also present. Hops arent there but as beer warms the vanilla is noticed. First taste is of sweet malt. Chocolate and vanilla come in as the beer warms and compliment the beer very good. Hops are pretty muted and there is an after taste of some cold burnt coffee. Mouth feel is pretty good. Body is alittle on the light side but head adds some nice fluffiness to it. Good balance of carbonation Overall it is pretty good. Very sessionable for such a flavorful stout. Cocoa and vanilla beans really make this a unique beer. Love everything this brewery does, just wish their prices were alittle more affordable cause I can drink their stuff everyday

Poured darker than a quantum singularity. This lovely little thing sucked in all the light in the room and gave none back. A little frothy head lingered past closing time. The very scent of it sent me right back to a pastry shop. Lots of roasty toasty malts, an elbow deep armfull of chocolate and a slight hint of real vanilla beans. It went down smooth and velvety, boasting large chocolate flavours and dark dark roasted malts with just enough vanilla so as to not dominate the main flavours. Truly a fantastic beer. I love you God of the Sky!
