On tap at Mondial de la biere, Montreal 2009. Clearly a new personnal favorite in this White beer category. Dominant grapefruit-tasting hop, not much coriander, a good thing for any beer to me, floral and other subtle notes. I don’t know if I’m unconsciously biaised towards this brewer but DDC continuously keeps on amazing me.

2009-06-06. Crisp yellow body with a modest white head and lace (3+). Pleasant bitterness throughout, touch of citrus, lemon, grapefruit seeds. Mild pale malts with very light biscuit notes. Aroma is hoppy, citrus notes, light yeast I think? Citrus rind. (7+) Smooth average plus palate. Very drinkable. Rather nice, I quite like this one. Nice citrusy hops! Yumm! I did not get a lot of blanche character from it to be honest, but I quite liked it. On tap at the brewpub, Montreal

On tap at Dieu De Ciel. Nice light yellow big foamy white head. Nice aroma - wheat and a bit of citrus hops. Taste was excellent - so refreshing. Light wheat, well carbonated, and a nice touch of citrus cascade hops. This one worked for me - it would be tough not to session this the next time I was there.

Pint at DDC. Pours a mostly clear- almost too clear for a wit- massive sticky white head. Aroma is citrus, cascade, light steel and earth with a typical fruity yeast ester found in many wits phenolic and nicely spicy. Flavor is a bit too refined- body is a bit lower than expected, clean crisp more pils and bready,, than creamy and wheat, still has phenolics, spice, lemon zest, cascade citrus, floral and light soap. Clean and pretty refreshing in the finish. Nice beer.

My Bottom Line:
This well-balanced Witbier introduces the citrusy character of Cascade hops to the gentle spiciness of coriander seeds and orange peel, all in a slender and bubbly mouthfeel fit for summer afternoon idling.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A thick head of foam covers the misty straw yellow.
-Yeast did not appear as much in the flavor profile as it does in their other wheat beers.
-The finish is a slow fading of the flavor profile, with a touch of hop bitterness.
-I just felt like pounding this one.

On tap at Dieu du Ciel!

Wow, this is like an IPA/Wit hybrid. Huge sharp hop aroma mixed with wheat, and yeast. Its the perfect marriage of both style, very interesting.

Very pale yellow pour, OK bubbly head. Aroma is quite refreshing; yeast is very palatable, and a nice citrus character resides, with lemon and grapefruit. Flavor is very nice; like Hoegaarden, but more complex. Good yeast, very drinkable, nice lacing, and a very full mouthfeel for this style. Excellent summer beer.

On tap at Mondial 2009. Clear yellow, Aroma is malty, citrusy and hoppy. Taste is pretty crisp and gently hopped. Malt and wheat as well. I thought it was a nice different beer. It’s nice that they tried something a bit unusual !
