Commercial Description:
This beer style was created in the late 1990’s by some breweries on the west coast of the United States, and most notably by Rogue. It’s an extreme version of the American IPA. It’s a beer with strong amber hues and dominating hop flavours and tastes. It is however well balanced through the presence of a combination of malts. This beer is usually dry hopped, a tradition that is adhered to by Dieu du Ciel!. The bouquet of the beer consists of floral hops. In the mouth, the bitterness is quite strong, without being extreme, and the alcohol makes its presence known, without being domineering. The aftertaste is dry and less syrupy than a barley wine. Thus, it is a very complex and bitter beer, but always well balanced.

on tap and brewpub. Orange/amber with small off white head. A lot of grapefruit in the aroma with some sweet and earthy malt undertones. Very complex hop flavor. lots of citrus with the addition of floral hops. Some sweetness in the flavour but it does not linger. dry finish. underated.

Tap @ DDC. Wow this is pretty powerful, minty, peppery aroma that carries great hop esters to the nose. Taste is very fresh, minty, piney with a medium bitter finish and some alcohol presence. Very nice.

Appearance: Ruby red with a solid small white head. Aroma: Nice hoppiness, malt, pineapple, grass with a good perfume property to it. Flavour: Hops. caramel, zingy pineapple and a coriander finish. Nice.

Draught. At Dieu du Ciel during Mondial 2009 - day 1. Hazy ruby-amber pour with an average creamy off-white head, nice lace remnants. Aroma of oranges, wildflowers, quite pungent and spicy, middling alcohol, all backed with caramel malt. The taste seemed more like a dubbel - pungent spiciness, with orange zest and alcohol; a little sweet. Slick, somewhat astringent mouthfeel, soft carbonation, and the alcohol asserts itself by the bottom of the glass - nice and citrusy, but not a normal DiPA at all.

Draught at Dieu du Ciel, Montréal, QC. Pours a deep amber-orange with a small diminishing creamy off-white head. Mild aroma, so mild it’s hard to decipher what’s there, there’s hops, citrus fruit and a hint of alcohol for sure. Nice flavour of slightly resiny hops -- refreshing. Medium bodied. Very good.

Rich orange colour. Large sticky white head. Aroma is loaded with sweet orange peel and a bit of light fruitiness as well. Orange peel, mango and papaya as well as a tropical deliciousness. Very fresh hoppy character with a bit of light pine on the back. It’s not all that resinous or astringent but it is very, very hoppy. Loads of rich tropical fruit and a soft lingering bitterness. A delicious IIPA.

Clear amber pour with modest off white head. Aroma is loaded with citrus: lemon and grapefruit take power with clove and coriander taking up the spicy notes. Caramel malt is also evident. Lots of floral and resinous hop flavors finishing fruity, but with a high alpha acid content. Palate is medium to full with medium carbonation and a dry finish.

On tap at DDC. Dark orange, small white head. Aroma of strong alchol and some hops. Taste again is very strong, good mix of malt and hops, but there is a bit of homebrew twang in there to be honest. Good, but was expecting more.
