Commercial Description:
This shimmering gold amber coloured beer has a light, smoked malt aroma. It’s well-rounded, with a great taste of malts and with a hint of sweetness. The smoky taste is quite dominant at each new draught. An original and notable beer, La Charbonnière is a house specialty.

A golden orange ale with a thin white head. A light malty aroma with light smoked bacon notes. In mouth, a light sweet malt with light smoked peat notes. Medium bodied. On tap at DDC, Dec. 16 2006. with ProbstK.

Skunky light hops aroma. No smoke present in the nose. It was well defined in the flavor and played a good subtle roll, but the rest of the beer was a kind of boring english amber type thing. Not impressed.

Sample, draught, savoured on site on December 28 2006; eye: amber, clear, no effervescence, small ring of an off-white head; nose: faint odours (glass?, cold?), light smoke, light caramel; mouth: smoke, light caramel, finale all in smoke and reminding of hickory, medium body, surprisingly and relatively thin, quite carbonated FRANÇAIS Échantillon, en fût, savourée sur place le 28 décembre 2006; oeil : ambrée, claire, pas d’effervescence, très petit anneau de mousse blanc cassé; nez : peu odorante (verre?, grippe?), légère fumée, léger caramel; bouche : fumée, léger caramel, finale tout en fumée avec des souvenirs de hickory, corps moyen, curieusement et relativement mince, assez carbonatée, légèrement sucrée et amère

Draught -- Impressive slight smokiness on top of a malty caramel body with a slight hop and a nut taste to boot. Actually, reminds me of burning maples and the hardening sap. This is a smoked for people unfamiliar with the beer. A winner!

Draught at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a small lasting off-white head. Mild aroma of malt and smoke -- pretty simple really. Flavour of caramel malt, smoke, light hops and nuts and a long smoky aftertaste. Medium bodied. Quite good, tasty and easy to drink.

Smoky, fruity aroma, cedar/campfire overtones. Malty, wheaty, nutty flavor with some gentle smokiness. A great, complex mix of flavors...very drinkable, addictive even! I was really surprised at how much I loved this beer, a real hidden gem!

On tap at the brewpub. Dark, golden brown, off white head - like all the Dieu De Ciel beers, it looks great. Aroma was disappointing though - not much smoke! A nice nuttiness to it, and maybe a bit of smoke after a while. Taste - nice camp fire like smokiness - present, never dominating, worked in well with the sweet malt. Again, very nutty and wood like. A smoked nut brown and a good one at that!

[tap @ the brewpub] Clear amber color. Slightly sweet, mildly smokey aroma. Flavors come on first with caramel and malt sweetness, then moves into subtle campfire territory. The smoked malt seems to be just enough to lure you into the next sip- still, it remains highly drinkable. Finishes long and almost woody. A wonderful, unique brew.
