Commercial Description:
This shimmering gold amber coloured beer has a light, smoked malt aroma. It’s well-rounded, with a great taste of malts and with a hint of sweetness. The smoky taste is quite dominant at each new draught. An original and notable beer, La Charbonnière is a house specialty.

2005 RBSG Montreal Saturday. Amber colour with a frothy off-white head. Caramel overwhelmed by a pleasing smoky bacon aroma. Nicely blanced smokines and malts, with a medium body and slightly oily mouthfeel.

draught. copper body - small long lasting white head. aroma certainly has a smoke element but it’s in check and isn’t too potent. lots of smoked ham flavour and a big malt-accented body. I like it - though maybe not as much as the Schlenkerla.

Orangeish-amber color, shy foamy head, good smoky aroma like smoked mussels, smoked malt aroma follows through on a medium-bodied smoky palate, like a good smoked salmon, hint of oilyness, smoked malt, long taste smokyness on every sips in a smooky soft maltyness finish.

Draught at the Moan & Dove: All smoked malt nose. Small whitish head sits atop a golden orange brew. This is real nice. I enjoy smoked beers, as long as they are done well. I feel this has great balance, despite being quite smokey. Chewy malts, smoke, wood, vanilla, velvety smooth body, finishing clean and dry, with a subtle sweetness. Very delectable, and perfect for the dinner table.

On draught 2/25/05 at the Moan and Dove, Péché Mortel release party. Served in a tumbler between 47-52 degrees.
Deep orange-yellow colored beer, thick looking (wavy and transluscent) with a small pillow of off-white head, moderate retention. Aroma of spicy hops, little bit of earthiness and saltiness. Some sweet toffee in the nose as well. The smoke flavor comes out swinging from the get-go. Rich, salty, sweet smoked-malt works perfectly with the fluffy, lightly creamy body. Even with all of the smokiness, it dosent get boring (to me) and I happily go back for a second glass. Not a syrupy or heavy body, but not a light or watery one either. It strikes a good balance, so to speak. Torn between giving this a 4 or a 5 for palate. Malt could be said to get a bit too sweet, in the end, but it hardly worries me. Low carbonation, no alcohol apparency. I’m sold, but then, I’m a sucker for rauchbiers.

Big malt/hops aroma, auburn, tiny head. Smokey, peaty flavour. Med-full bodied, but very smooth, with a dry finish. A fine version!

Smoky aroma, medium roasted malts, somewhat dry end. Dark gold, small creamy head. Chewy, medium bodied lager. Long lasting smoky impressions. Sweet malts pop up later in the play. Gets better as it warms up .
