DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 23, 2009 Updated: Oct 30, 2009I think they got the intensity right but maybe not quite the masterful 3-D hops I seek in this style. Bold, round hopping that takes on some complexity as the glass warms and I drink more of it. Piney and grassy and a bit hard. The bittering is foremost while not being too aggressive. Pale fruits and citrus are in there - it’s a nice unusual handmade IPA - but would like to try fresh draft at DDC or just-bottled fresh to really get the scoop here, as I would hope for greater things here. Enjoyed at - where else - Bar Volo! ** add note ** this beer does grow on one with repeated exposure. Cheers. KornDogg (168), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA May 21, 2009 Tulip glass... deep amber... strong sweet aroma... hoppy and bitter, well balanced with a strong caramel/sugar flavor.... Cole (266), , Alberta, Canada May 18, 2009 Drunk from tulip. Pours deep amber with a thin white head. Aroma is dominated by cascade like most N.A I.P.As. Flavour is very bitter and rich, well balanced and very dry. Creamy mouth feel. A great I.PA. cfrancis (293), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada May 17, 2009 The description is so accurate. Very hoppy, very delicious. Sharp bitterness in the aftertaste. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA May 16, 2009 Poured a dark copper color with a white to off-white head. Decent lacing. The aroma was grassy, light citrus and malt. The flavor was malt, grassy and citrusy hops and some definite pencil shavings. Lots of malt, you can definitely feel the English influence. Not an aggresive IPA, more of an English Pale Ale. Expensive for what it was. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 10, 2009 Cloudy amber and a thin white head. Smells like pine. belgian yeast. Thin butter like feel. I think the bottle might have some age because it seems toned down. Very smooth with a roasty finish. smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA May 10, 2009 Bountiful head, slow to diminish. Lots of lumpy lace on the glass. Amber, on the side of darker, a little bit of cloudiness.
Plenty of floral hop in the nose. Mild, lighter malt is also present.
Tastes like a traditional American IPA. Lots of harsher bitter flavored hops. Initial sip barely shows the neutral malt presence. The rest is bitterness through the long aftertaste. Good body, low carbonation. A very good example of the style. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA May 10, 2009 Updated: Jun 3, 2009Extremely creamy and sugary IPA that had some very unusual spices. Orange peel, but sugary orange peel. Lots of sugars and the malts are huge in this one. It almost coats the mouth. Very good, and the hops are pungently bitter too, like unrefined bitter. Too bad it’s so expensive for just a 6.5% abv ipa...
