Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Dark amber appearance with a strong hop aroma. Full bodied. There is a strong hop flavor and a subtle malt base.

Pours dark amber with a beige head. Aroma is seriously of hops, taste is more of grass and pine with some grassy hoppy flavours. Very full bodied, powerful and delicious.

Like a lot of the Quebec IPAs this one is very malty. Yet unlike many of the others it still has the crisp flavour typical of the IPA style. Fairly bitter and the malt and hops are not quite balanced but nevertheless still a decent IPA.

Bottle. Small ivory fizzy head with short retention, semi-transparent and semi-hazy orange w/golden tint body, fast rising carbonation, and very little lacing. The aroma was citrus hops, bitter, malt, pine, fruity, caramel, and bready. The flavor was bitter, citrus hops, caramel, bready, and malty. The mouthfeel was tingly and this is a medium bodied IPA. For the style, this is not overly hoppy tasting which was a pleasant surprise since I am by no means a hophead. That being said, I truly enjoyed this beer, it’s worthy of a try, and an IPA that I would drink again.

12 oz bottle. Absolutely LOVED Dieu du Ciel’s Peche Mortel, so when I discovered more Dieu at the store, I decided to try another one. Pours a reddish brown color that is reminiscent of a barley wine with a small thin off-white head. Smells of a ton of caramel malt, some hops, and that’s sadly about it. The thought pre-taste was fear, because of how much malt was in the smell, I figured it would be over-dominating. However, it wasn’t too bad, with a pleasant hop and malt taste in your mouth. Light to medium bodied, but overall not too bad. Nowhere near as impressive as Peche Mortel though...

Pours murky, dark copper with a creamy 2 finger beige head that fades to a chunky half finger after a few minutes and holds, leaving some pretty nice lacing as it goes, this is a nice looking brew. Aroma is dark caramel, lots of sweet citrus, a little pine, lightly buttery toffee, some husky grain and nice biscuit notes. Flavor is caramel, light peppery spice, strong, yet muted citrus notes - sort of like there are dried citrus peels in here or something, white bread crust, sweet bread spice, berry blossom like floral notes and biscuity malts. Finish is moderately bitter blood orange citrus, burnt sugar and toffee. Palate is medium body, dry on the entry a little syrupy in the middle and dry again for the finish. Really nice IPA, it has alot of interesting character to it, and a really elegant balance, could be a little hoppier though.

Bottle, courtesy of Parksy. Pours a dark burnt orange colour, slightly hazy, with a robust long-lived off-white head. Big aromas and flavours of sweet toffee malts and aggressive citrus-oil and resin hop character. Chewy, full-bodied, mouth-filling, with flavour and character in abundance. My new favourite Canadian IPA.

Pours the deepest amber into the glass, with an offwhite head that reduces to a thin cap, leaving light soapy lace. The nose is a direct cross between caramel and pine resin. Citric flavors of orange, lime and grapefruit cut through a sweet malt base, only to be counterbalanced by an assertive pine hop. The finish is nicely bitter, with just a hint of sweetness and citrus leftover. The mouthfeel is complex, yet with a biscuit-dry texture. The palate is almost silky - the complexities of the brew do not overbalance the quaff. Nice and hoppy, but well-balanced on the malt side, this is a very drinkable brew that is complex enough to enjoy real substance.
