TeamTrappist (365), jericho, New York, USA Oct 23, 2008 Poured a cloudy reddish brown. Spicey, sweet, musty, grassy nose. Lots of tiny bubbled carbonation, with a fairly thin mouthful, which surprised me due to the color.Flavor is very similar to the nose. This beer is unique in that I can’t think of a beer that I would compare it to.Definitely more spicy than floral Finish starts smooth and dry, but lingers with some sweet bitterness. talon1117 (614), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Oct 23, 2008 Pours a hazy, scarlet color with a yellowish, moderately full, creamy, pillowy head which settles in a timely manner and leaves some drippy lace. Nose is quite sweet for an IPA; notes of caramel, toffee, vanilla with some pink grapefruit and resins and some tropical fruit notes (maybe mango). Flavor is similar with more resinous notes and a more than medium bitterness; notes of caramel, light toffee, lots of pine resins, and pink grapefruit. Palate is medium, soft to lively, and a bit oily. Finishes drying and fairly long with more bitterness and notes of slightly earthy pine resins and lingering grapefruit notes. A nice, sweeter IPA but still with good bitterness and hop flavors. Not quite what I would consider a West Coast IPA but still a nice balanced hoppy beer. Extremely drinkable. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Oct 20, 2008 on tap at volo cask days 2008. beautifully orange with a tight white head. big hop aromas with noticable caramel malt background. the malts take the lead in the flavours but the hops are there in plenty. the bitterness on the finish is nice but its held in check by the big maltiness. a nice IPA that i which i could get locally. JFURYCAT (782), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 19, 2008 Dry with a very hoppy spike but an odd tea-like flavor lingers in the finish. Not a bad IPA though. dmac (1420), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Oct 19, 2008 11.5 oz bottle from tytoanderso, thanks Tyler. Pours a slightly murky brown with a foamy off white/light beige head. Not sure if this one is old or if the hops in this are just subdued but either way they sure are taking a back seat to the malts. Aroma of caramel and toffee and to a lesser extent some grapefruit citrus hops. Slightly syrupy body with a light bitter finish. Flavor has lots of bread and caramel with only slight citrus rind. Funny thing is although this was no hop bomb it sure started growing on me by the end, sort of like a wart on your thumb but in a good way. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Oct 18, 2008 Pours a copperish color. Aroma is fresh grapefruit and rich caramel malt. Taste is grapefruit and light floral hops. with a bit of earthiness. Mild carbonation. Another non-American IPA that pales into comparison of what a traditional American IPA is. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Oct 18, 2008 Pours a light amber color with a medium creamy headthat leaves some webs of lacing. Aroma is robust - hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, with some caramel malt citrus. Taste is about the same, but balanced and smooth. Very enjoyable IPA. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Oct 17, 2008 Small bottle, pours a hazy dark copper-ruby with medium brown, produced a creamy variable bubbled off-white head with some bubbles that were almost tan colored, head looked like meringue on the beer, head softened to a nice cover in a few minutes, I could see some effervescence when the glass is held up to a light, this looks darker then your typical IPA, leaves bubbled lacing on the sides of the glass, a nice big aroma of citrus hops, along with oranges and toasted malt, faint caramel and grassy fragrances, flavors of citrus hop pine bitterness with toasted malt and some malt sweetness, the hops keep the sweetness in check and then some, flavors of orange skin and pine needle, hop bitterness and pine hangs on after the finish, mouth feel is medium or a bit more, nice on the tongue, a nice great hopped IPA, I found this balanced more towards the hops with toasted malt flavors.
