oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland May 30, 2008 Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is bigtime fruity hops with some mild grassyness. Flavour is rather hoppy with some hints of grass and earth. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada May 26, 2008 Bottle from Hogtownharry, thanks a lot Harry! Bottle decants into the glass, a deep hazed amber with orange hues. Head is a creamy froth of beige and leaves nice lace. The nose is dominated by floral hops ,and has solid doses of citrus (mostly grapefruit), dark bread, caramel malts, wet wood and dank forest air. Quite interesting. This IPA shows citric floral hops as the main flavour contender, with bready, malty goodness leading to sweet caramel and toffee. There is a lingering spice that I also quite like. Finish is hoppy, bitter and pleasant. I wish I could get this all the time. Thanks so much for the bottle Harry! NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle from WLV. Nose is citrusy and floral. Deep red amber. Taste is sweet and fruity with a clean bitter finish. Not exactly where I’d expect a NW IPA, but still comes across as a very nice IPA on all counts. Nice. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA May 26, 2008 12 ouncer at Belmont Station in PDX--Poured a ruby-orange-copper body with a medium one-fingered fluffy white head. Lots of sweet malts and hops in the nose. Caramel, creamy, a little traveled. Not the West Coast hoppy brew I hopped for, but not too bad either. Reminiscent of a lot of East Coast IPA’s best efforts. English maltiness with a little PNW flair. Not bad, but not worth $5+ a bottle, either when you can get a lot better right here in Portland. chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 By itself, it would be a decent IPA. But, with all of the text on the bottle proclaiming it’s based on IPAs from the pacific northwest, it falls short. Nice fresh hop aromas. Toasty caramel flavors (marris otter base malt?). Not overly hop flavored - just a bit bitter. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 26, 2008 Amber color. Smell of citrus, pine, malt, copper, citrus peal and caramel. Taste of hops, malt, nuts, metallic, citrus and bread. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 25, 2008 You know what I think is overrated? balalnce. When I hear people talk about a balance in beer as some sort of holy grail, I usually have to strain to keep from rolling my eyes and think to myself that balance usually means boring. That being said, this was a perfect balanced beer, with a sturdy malt base - a lot of chocolat eand caramel paired with a solid grapefruity hop that remains in sync from the first sip to the finish. And the beer continues to reveal new flavors as it warms - some smoke, some citrus. Really nice stuff. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland May 25, 2008 Typical american style IPA. Light brown colur. Lots of hops and bitterness. Anyway quite tasty beer. Hints of grapefruit. Shared with Mirjukka and FatPhil in Pikkulintu.
