Lots of sweet malts and hops in the nose. Caramel, creamy, a little traveled. Not the West Coast hoppy brew I hopped for, but not too bad either. Reminiscent of a lot of East Coast IPA’s best efforts. English maltiness with a little PNW flair. Not bad, but not worth $5+ a bottle, either when you can get a lot better right here in Portland. chronictonic (402), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 26, 2008 By itself, it would be a decent IPA. But, with all of the text on the bottle proclaiming it’s based on IPAs from the pacific northwest, it falls short. Nice fresh hop aromas. Toasty caramel flavors (marris otter base malt?). Not overly hop flavored - just a bit bitter. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

When I hear people talk about a balance in beer as some sort of holy grail, I usually have to strain to keep from rolling my eyes and think to myself that balance usually means boring. That being said, this was a perfect balanced beer, with a sturdy malt base - a lot of chocolat eand caramel paired with a solid grapefruity hop that remains in sync from the first sip to the finish. And the beer continues to reveal new flavors as it warms - some smoke, some citrus. Really nice stuff. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2008 Bottle from the depanneur down the road from the Dieu Du Ciel Brewpub. Thick beige head atop a cloudy auburn color body. Outstanding lacing...like other beers from this brewery. Strong aroma of hops, fresh earthiness, pine, and orange peel (or some under-ripe fruit). Flavor is piney with caramel malts and honey. Soapy long finish. Very nice medium body IPA. Props to Dieu du Ciel for another fine brew. 1FastSTi (2557), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2008 Thanks Dave. The beer pours to a deep amber body with a really creamy off-white bubbly head. The aroma is extremely hoppy with strong grasses and weeds with herbs and a strong cereal grain. The flavor has a bitter grassy hop and earthy Chinook or something like that. Dark amber malts. Bitter grassy palate. It’s dense and moderately bodied.
