Bottledate 11/07
Pours dark amber and hazy, with a one-inch head of off-white.
Decent lacing for the first few sips of the glass.
Aromatics are citrus-laden, malty, and oxodized.
Grapefruit, dry malt, wet cardboard, and a hint of juniper round out the nose.
The mouthfeel is medium and slightly chewy. Decently creamy but fairly crisp.
The pallet has plenty of grapefruit as promised, with chewy malt to balance.
Bitterness is firm and drying, but not overpowering.
Alcohol is warming and works well with the beer.
Finishes with drying grapefruit pith, dusty malt, and wet paper.
Aside from the fact that this beer is way past-prime, it’s a fairly good representation of the style.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 4, 2008 Bottle from Festivus! Poured fiery medium orange with about an inch of beige head sticking around. The aroma was bright and all hopped up with floral and deeper grapefruit standing out.. warmth brought out a layer of caramel and a bouquet of darker fruit.. well-done. The flavor picked up a bit of a metallic twang that detracted a bit.. grainy, sweet ambery caramel at the core with earth, pepper, and floral bitterness surrounding.. sticky, resiny finish. Medium-bodied and (as mentioned previously) almost more of a strong red ale than an IPA.. bitterness was persistent and higher, leading to a warm, but rather refreshing finish. ante (2928), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Bottled. Very hazy amber appearance with a rich fluffy white foam. Floral hops, caramel, pine-apples, white bread and herbs. Malty flavour (for the style) of caramel, flowers, soap, mint and grass. Clean mouthfeel. Medium bitter finish of grapefruit, flowers, caramel and blood oranges. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Bottle. Hazy amber colour with a nice white head. Nice aroma of sweetness from the malt and a lot of hops. Flavour of hops and caramel, very nice and very hoppy, ends up with a smooth finish. bitbucket (2031), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Bottle, thanks to after4ever. Pours clear dark orange with a lacy white head. Perfume, earth and pepper nose. Light body and full carbonation. If I had to guess the style on this one, I would have gone with something like imperial red, except for the light body. Dry and perfumy finish. This just confirms my suspicion that any beer with the words "American-style I.P.A." in the description is guaranteed to not be an American-style I.P.A. Interesting beer, though. beermouth (435), Langeskov, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2008 330. Thanks, glouglouburp! Pours bright ruby, somewhat hazy. Thin rim of white foam. Big perfumey floral hoppy nose. Smells like garden flowers as much as hop flowers--so perfumey! Medium body with very present carb. Rich caramel on the mid-palate, along with plenty of piney hops. Long piney finish. Tonight we sampled probably the driest IPA I’ve ever actually enjoyed, and this, which is probably the sweetest, perfumiest IPA I’ve had. This is a good one, but at this level of sugary floral aromatics, it can’t really cross over into awesomeness. That’s fine, because someone needs to be out here occupying this "sweetest good IPA ever" square on the map, and who better than Dieu du Ciel?
