emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 13, 2009 Pours a very hazy reddish orange with a two finger creamy yellow head.Smells a little oxidized, sweet caramel malt, citrus rind, past its prime in the aroma. Flavor shows the same, sweet, citrus rind bitterness, oxidation, some alcohol, a tad earthy. Mild carbonation. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Aug 12, 2009 A Mes rate. Bottle drunk at the Rake thanks to Rudiger. Amber gold with a thin off white head. Big resinous hoppy nose with some slight ethanol and a bit of a peppery sting at the top. Really good nose. Sadly the flavour is nothing like as good. All the same stuff is there that made the aroma so great but there are some definite notes of card and vegetables. All I can say is that this doesn’t seem to have bottled too well. It’s like a bad English bottle conditioned beer. Such a same. I’m sure this would be spectacular on draught but right now, especially following the exceptional aroma, I feel rather let down. Superb bitter finish brings it back, just but I can’t help but feel this has so much more to give. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 11, 2009 Pours a murky orage with a small off white lace. Smells like an aged barleywine. Hard to find the hops in the flavor too. Would like to try a fresh bottle or better yet have this on tap to rerate. GandGKevin (183), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2009 Great citrusy hop aromas. Nice spicy hop flavors. Nicely baalanced with malts. Overall very good. Grizzle (44), Lawrence, Kansas, USA Aug 9, 2009 11.5 fl. oz. bottle -> English pint glass. Pours a wonderfully cloudy, dark tree-sap-amber. Moderate lacing, from an espresso-colored head, which itself was quick to retreat. Smells of hops, sour grapefruit, and burned sugar/caramel. Tastes similar. Bitter and sour, with sufficient sweetness on the back end. Mild taste of alcohol. An excellent beer. punkska101 (93), Chambly, Quebec, Canada Aug 8, 2009 341 ml brown bottle bought @ local IGA grocery : Dark copper, med carb, grapefruit, citrusy, great bitterness not that sharp, med body, great balance between malt and hop. arminjewell (100), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Aug 6, 2009 Poured yellow with a white head, smelled of british style hops, and tasted the same which don’t work well with the malt. Overall fairly hoppy but not enough and not as tasty as one would think. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Aug 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy caramel, off white head. Aroma is tangy dried fruit and grassy. Flavor is malty and hoppy: graham cracker, citrus, and honey dough. A bit too doughy for me.
