TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Aug 2, 2009 Bottle. Murky amber with a fluffy tan head. Aroma is citrus oils, orange peel, sweet malt, toffee, some Bit O Honey, and spicy hops. Taste is more spicy hops, pine resin, orange peel, citrus oils, toffee, light caramel, and sweet, chewy malts. Nice chewiness to the body with a medium overall feel. Carbonation is dense and creamy. Only slightly oily and minor lingering bitterness. Ends with more spicy hops, light toffee, caramel, sweet malts, citrus fruits and pine needles. Tasty! ksurkin (354), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 19, 2009 11.5oz bottle from grape & gourmet. pours a hazy, darker copper with a thin, off-white head and decent lacing. aroma is quite nice but a bit backwards for an IPA with big, sweet, toffee malt notes dominating the nose with milder hints of earthy, citrus hops, pine resin, and a bit of spice. definitely smells more like a strong/BW than and IPA. flavor is pretty solid as well and followed the aroma with caramel/toffee malts, raisins, and earthy/leafy hop notes with a slight touch of citrus and spice. palate was medium bodied with solid carbonation and a dry, herbal hop finish. overall, a good brew that was a bit backwards for an IPA even when drank fresh and seems more like strong ale or barley wine. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jul 18, 2009 11.5oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, bright red-orange colored body with a billowing, two-finger width, dense and creamy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of clinging lace. Sexy looking IPA. Aroma is sweet and chewy caramels with a good amount of sweet, resiny, piney and grassy hops. A light amount of dark toffee and plenty of citrus. Flavor is full and sweet caramels, earthy toffees, woody and piney citrus, a bit of biscuit, and resiny oranges and grapefruits. Finishes dry and grassy with plenty of earthy caramels and hops that linger for a long time. Palate is full and slightly chewy. Overall, a really tasty and balanced IPA. Lots of malts and hops that blend very well together. Good one. Cirrhosis (607), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2009 "Beer looks cloudy brown with burnt orange elements shining though a minimal crown was produced but that reduced quickly to a small bubble ring. Simple nice aroma containing sweet hopy citrus and a mild malt character, the malts start to become more bold as the beer warms. Yummy intense bitter taste, the bitterness lingers a very long time. Nice grape fruit hops and roasted malt flavors but there seems to be a lot of alcohol in the taste for such a low percentage. After drinking this for a while all the malts seem to vanish from the flavor just leaving the alcohol and intense bitterness. I’m not too sure how much I enjoyed this it was both good and bad, this beer let me down. " lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Jul 13, 2009 Pours dark amber with ample fluffy head. Nice herbal, citrus, and earthy aromas, almost slightly spicey, with a nice caramel malt backing. Flavor contains English hops in abundance with a nice caramel-toffee base. Slightly biscuity with herbal and ctirus notes jumping out every so often and lingering throughout. A nice twist on the American IPA. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jul 10, 2009 Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Rich caramel hue topped by a nice frothy slightly off-white head which left ring of lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of resiny and acidic fruits, grassy and herbal , caramel and bready malts, slight bubblegum and medicinal vapours. Smells more akin to a strong ale than a crisper IPA. The taste follows suit with pungent resiny hops, light grapefruit and orange, grassy twang and a chalky metallic tone supported by a chewy bready malt backbone. While it is bitter, it is hardly a hop bomb however. Again I get more "Strong Ale or malter IIPA" character than a crisper and more drinkable IPA. Hardly bad (in fact pretty good still) but just not what I expect. Madsnp (607), Odense C, Denmark Jul 8, 2009 Bottle. Amber coloured with a nice off white head. Floral aroma with notes of grass, citrus, caramel and malt. Crisp and dry flavour with notes of citrus fruit, grapefruit, resin and malt. Hoppy and dry finish. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Jul 7, 2009 (Bottle, Bishop’s Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm) Dark amber colour with huge, frothy, beige head, leaving lots of lacing. Fruity, hoppy nose with orange peel, caramel, toffee and fresh hops. Fruity, malty taste with notes of caramel, orange peel, pine needles and generous amounts of aromatic, citrussy hops in the finish. More than medium body, rather sweet. Lots of taste, very nice beer.
