The aroma was strong fruity, piney and resiny hops with a light tangy malt undertone. The flavor was bitter and a litte harsh with strong fruity, piney and earthy hops. There was a long piney and earthy finish. Fairly thick. Interesting. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Bottle, thanks to after4ever. Pours clear dark orange with a lacy white head. Perfume, earth and pepper nose. Light body and full carbonation. If I had to guess the style on this one, I would have gone with something like imperial red, except for the light body. Dry and perfumy finish. This just confirms my suspicion that any beer with the words "American-style I.P.A." in the description is guaranteed to not be an American-style I.P.A. Interesting beer, though. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA

Lots of sweet malts and hops in the nose. Caramel, creamy, a little traveled. Not the West Coast hoppy brew I hopped for, but not too bad either. Reminiscent of a lot of East Coast IPA’s best efforts. English maltiness with a little PNW flair. Not bad, but not worth $5+ a bottle, either when you can get a lot better right here in Portland. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2009 12oz bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a hazy rusty brown color with a 2 finger beige head that left some spotty lacing. Nose was over run with sweet malts and candied tree fruits. The hops were not very prevalent. Flavor was also quite sweet with a touch of hop bitterness. Its a good thing I like IPA’s that have been sitting around a while, it seems like this one has. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours a gorgeous opaque dark amber with a lasting big beige head. Smell is sweet, tart maltiness and nice fruity hops. Bit of hibiscus smell too. Taste is fairly dry, and hoppy with not much sweetness. Mild bitterness with good floral hop flavor. Prickly and sticky mouthfeel. Nice, unique IPA. A good beer from Don du Ciel, but my least favorite so far. Would try another for a second review. beerbill (1972), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2009 341 ml bottle courtesy of a trade with WeeHeavySD. Pours a hazy dark brown with a thin-moderate off-white head that faded after two sips and left very little lace. The aroma is sweet malt and overripe, actually I’ll call it rotting, fruit. A bit off-putting actually, and it had me wondering if I really wanted to take a full sip. Thankfully, the flavor is nowhere near as sweet as the aroma suggests. There is ample sweet malt up front, and this is followed by a wash of dry hops. Moderate bitterness at the finish and quite dry. Probably not something I would look to revisit.
