Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Bottle. Pours hazy coppery with ruby edges and 2-fingers of uniform, off-white head and great lacing. The aroma is heavy piney hops, grapefruit, mango, caramel malt, black pepper. The taste is caramel malty, piney hoppy, with mango, grapefruit, honeydew, and a massive fresh ground black pepper flavor. Not nearly as pronounced as the route des epices, but perhaps more black peppery flavor than I have ever experienced in an IPA, and man, does it work with this one. The complexity and balance are off the charts, and this one was one of the most unique, exciting IPAs I’ve had in a long time. If everything from Dieu Du Ciel is this good, I may have to move to Canada.

Hazy amber with a bubbly off-white head. Classic citrus hop aroma. Sweetish with a sharp hop bite and a pine hop finish.

Dark amber ale with a thin creamy white head. Funky orangey hops in aroma, sweet malts and floral notes. In mouth, like a classic US IPA, with pleasant floral hops, earthy citrus. Rich and smooth mouthfeel. Enjoyed with M_Heine and GonzoBeer, on Dec. 17th, 2005 (YeHaa).

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie, caramel), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit, apricot), with notes of dried mango and wood. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Nice rendition, with a more varied aroma than most American versions. Enjoyable quaffer.

Feb 2004: Nicely hoppy-piney nose, though it’s a bit weak. Creamy head, dark and unfiltered. Flavors of apricots, spices (this was DDC’s spice-fest evening, after all) including tarragon. Hops heavy at the finish; dry. I don’t think that IPAs are one of DDC’s specialties, but this was nice and fit well with the other beers of the evening. 6/4/7/3/13 3.3

April 2005: more pungency and floral qualities to the aroma, touches of honey and citrus...fuller, gorgeous body, with delicate oaken characteristics vying with a sweet orange acidity...very creamy, yet the bitterness never lets go. Rating is for this sample.

330 ml. bottle. Dark amber color with a significant beige head. Aroma of roasted caramel, citrus and resin. Medium body with creamy carbonation. It tastes really fresh. The roasted malt is there, but the hop seems to overcome it. I’m not saying it’s unbalanced, but I’m not saying it’s balanced. The finish is both sweet and bitter. I am saying it is absolutely delicious. Works for my mouth.

On tap at the brewpub. The body was medium copper with a white head. The aroma was oranges, peanuts and a hint of vanilla. The taste was simialr with some oranges and some peanuts. Thus has a very smooth bady for the abv. Very well made.
