Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Bottle at home - shared with Mette. Cloudy dark red/brown - white head. Medium hoppy, resin, citrus, fruity, grass, nice medium malty, light sweetness, caramel, light peppery, peach, piney, grass, fresh grass. Long lasting bitter and dry finish.

11.5oz bottle. Pours a deep, very cloudy red with highlights of amber and deep brown. The head is tan in color pours up very, very thick - but fades quickly into a thin, large-bubbled layer that leaves big spots and chunks of lace on the glass. The aroma is all IPA: a nice combination of hops, bitter citrus, and fruitiness. There is a slightly medicinal and grassy quality to the aroma, too. Hints of caramel and chocolate can be found just under the waves of hops. The flavor is well-balanced - starting off both bitter and hoppy but also quite malty with a good bit of residual sweetness, doughy breadiness, and roasted chocolatey notes. There are lots of bready notes that start tinged with caramel and end at mid-tongue tinged with chocolate. The heavy-handed caramel malts on the front end combined with the color of gravity would lead me to call this an American Amber, not an American IPA... But it is tasty. At mid-tongue, as the bitterness increases, a distinctive ester quality comes through - that tastes more like a Belgian strain than an American one (probably is given the brewer). The finish is spicy and strong with evergreen hops. The big bitterness leads to a dry and green finish. The mouthfeel is well-bubbled - light and crisp with a soft sting from carbonation. The body is medium-full and straight-forward. Overall, a very tasty beer. It is a little more interesting and better balanced than the Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA I tried last night... (I know, I know - they’re not the same style - but this one is more sublime and happens to appease my hop-head desires a little better).

Rich citrus hops aroma with baked bread, cream and candied fruits. Thick pillowy head, light orange cream color with deep brownish orange colored body. Rich hops flavor balanced with apple cider, dried fruits, bread crust, and some brown sugar. Palate is light but good, rich lasting duration. Good flavors throughout.

Pours a light amber color with a medium creamy headthat leaves some webs of lacing. Aroma is robust - hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, with some caramel malt citrus. Taste is about the same, but balanced and smooth. Very enjoyable IPA.

Pours a hazy burnt orange. The aroma is great, resin hoppy goodness, malts, notes of a burger joint....weird, caramel, toffee, cake. The flavour is a reflection of that, citrus, tangerine, rind, hops, balanced by caramel, toffee, and cake. The mouthfeel is a little heavy, the carbonation is just right. The best Canadian IPA I’ve ever had.

11.5oz bottle from greens in atlanta (I think). Interesting look for an ipa - a murky dark amber-orange pour with a finger off-white head and spotty lacing. Aroma is a big mix of sweet roasted caramel malts and floral citrus hops. The taste leans toward the toasty malt and bready side of things up front - then balanced up a bit with grassy and slightly resiny hop bitterness. There is a lot going on with this one and I wouldn’t say it’s a typical take on the American ipa. The texture is nice and full with a hint of carbonation. Tough one to rate -- as an ipa, it’s not quite what I go for normally -- as some random beer, it’s well constructed and interesting. Always top marks for that.

Bottle. Amber colour with a thick and foamy white head. The aroma is rather shy but nice citrusy. Hoppy flavor. But not in a complex way. It is not too bitter, you can actually taste the hops. Hints of butter and citrus.

Extremely creamy and sugary IPA that had some very unusual spices. Orange peel, but sugary orange peel. Lots of sugars and the malts are huge in this one. It almost coats the mouth. Very good, and the hops are pungently bitter too, like unrefined bitter. Too bad it’s so expensive for just a 6.5% abv ipa...
