Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Caramel colored with an off white head. Aroma could be bigger and has caramel, pine, and some roasted malt. Flavor is caramel, fruit, grapefruit, and pine. It is balanced toward the sweet side. Feel is a bit powdery but otherwise is medium bodied. Finish is floral. Very nice!

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, nuts, wood, chocolate malts, caramel, and resin. Poured dark amber in color with a large, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly bitter. Tastes of hops, malts, caramel, resin, wood, and more hops. I do not detect the pine that most people seem to taste in this beer. Medium body. Chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Dry hoppy finish.

Bottled. A slightly hazy red-amber beer with a medium tan head. The aroma is sweet and very hoppy - with both notes of grass and grapefruit. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy again with notes of grass and grapefruit, but also pine needles, leading to a very bitter finish.

Bottled. Very hazy amber appearance with a rich fluffy white foam. Floral hops, caramel, pine-apples, white bread and herbs. Malty flavour (for the style) of caramel, flowers, soap, mint and grass. Clean mouthfeel. Medium bitter finish of grapefruit, flowers, caramel and blood oranges.

Bottle:   Reddish caramel, moderate frothy off-white head, few spots of lacing.   Hop oriented nose, a little on the dusty side.   Reminds me of a basement.   Strong hops on the tongue, yet not overly biting.   Seems rich, without being brash.   As it warms I get a bit more citrus out of it.   The nose picks up that powdered sugar aroma.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Could use a tad bit more malt, not that I think its weak, but based on the flavors I would have loved to see it a bit fuller.   Otherwise, more flavorful than many other beers that call themselves IPA.   Would like to try fresh on draught.

Rerate (7-3-7-3-14=3.4): Strong floral, lemon/lime hop character in the nose over sweet malt character. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a decent white head that recedes to a partial cover with some lace. Very sweet malt character with lingering lime citrus hops. Sharp and pronounced bitterness verges on harsh at times. Dry medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle (Gift, Oct-07) sampled with Beershine and Oakes. Thanks, MartinT!

Original rating (7-5-7-4-13=3.6): Strong citrusy American hop nose. Off-white head on caramel coloured beer. This looks good. Big hop flavour with some underlying malt sweetness. Flavours seem to arrive in sequence rather than being blended. Mouthfeel is as thick as one would normally expect from this pub. On tap.
