Commercial Description:
Corne du diable (French for "Horn of the devil") is a contemporary interpretation of the classic English India Pale Ale. This new style, born on the west coast of North America, is characterized by stronger and hoppier beers. The result is a red ale expressing caramel flavours coming from the malt, sharp bitterness and powerful hop aromas, thanks to dry hopping.

Sampled at 08 vt brewers fest. Pours a medium amber with a beigh head. Aroma is hoppy with pine, citrus, grass and a hint of caramel. Flavor is sweet with caramel, light fruit, citrus and some herbal notes with a medium body and has a bitter hoppy finish.

12 oz bottle from WLV Liquors. Pours a hazed orange with a off white head that fades to a thin layer. Malt and floral notes constitute the greatest part of the beer. Aged caramel malts and brown sugar with floral hops that are ever so slightly soapy in the nose. The flavor profile matches the aroma. A decent amount of bitterness that carries through the finish leaving the tongue dry from the floral hops. Not bad but not that enjoyable either. Floral hops aren’t my favorite bittering hop, I think they could have done better with a different varietal. Especially if they are trying for the "American IPA".

Bottle. Pours hazy amber/brown with light white head. Aroma of piney hops along with some toffee malt sweetness. Taste was bitter hoppy, yet also had some definite toasty biscuit malts as well. Kind of an interesting combination that worked decently methinks. Average mouthfeel with a good bitter kick in the finish that didn’t linger much. A solid IPA.

Golden color with a light citrusy hop aroma. Flavor gas some mild citric "C" hops with some bready-sweet malts. Medium mouthfeel. OK, but not really impressive.

THOUGHTS: Nice beer, but I was expecting much more from this one. I’ve heard good thins about the brewery and this my first sample. It seemed to have qualities of both British and American IPAs. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a reddish, brownish, orange with a large, off-white head that mostly diminished, but left good lacing. The aroma was moderate molasses and caramel malts, moderate resin, grapefruit and orange hops, light to moderate earthy yeast, brown sugar and light band-aid. The flavor was caramel malt, earthiness, tea, citrus (orange and grapefruit) hops, pine and resin then metallic hops, finishing with a long duration. The medium body was sorta syrupy and sticky on the lips, but more oily really with soft carbonation and a metallic and moderate tho heavily astringent finish.

Bottle drink by 01/10 I think. Initial aroma is of dry-hopped Cascades. Amber-red body, great head with lacing. Malty body, slight crystal malt sweetness, turns hoppy at the end (grapefruit/pine). An American-style IPA, if not a super hop bomb. Good.

Baught 4 of these at Le depanneur de la Rive near Quebec city... Pours a nice light copper with a pretty thick head. The smell is trully great and the taste is not bad. The first thing I liked is the sweet mix of flavours, mostly cramel that I can taste. The finish was a little bitter but tolerable. Overall a very nice beer!
