5 fl. oz. sample at the brewpub. App.: sl.cloudy, orangey-amber. Aroma: nice grapefruity, citrusy hops, a little bit of rye bread crust. Palate: med. body and almost flat. Flav.: a little sweet malt, some nice piney, grapefruity hops, fairly substantial bitterness to finish with a hint of roasted malt. Nice!

Dark amber color with a nice beige head. The aroma is of citrus. You can taste the sweet caramel in it, but also taste some hops. It lives you with a good bitter feel in your mouth. Very good.

Cask. Dark amber brown, good sized fluffy tan/off-white head and a bit of lacing. Hoppy, green, vegetable (celery?) notes in the aroma. More celery (but not...) in the flavour, pleasant moderate bitterness, caramel malt and an earthy celery bitterness and tang that is present throughout and lingers in the aftertaste. (I wonder now that I know what was in it, if it was the rye that I was having trouble describing). Light but very smooth palate. (3+) Good but not exceptional, couldn’t quite wrap my tastebuds around it.

In short: A nice hoppy “dirty”rye beer
How: On tap at brewpub many times
The look: Partly cloudy dark copper body with a small beige head
In long: Very malty beer with a variable rye presence. Some pints I had very very rye-focussed and in other cases I could barely pick-up the rye. Variations between batches or a beer that changes a lot from fresh to a month old? I don’t know. There’s a strong earthy/tree bark taste that gives a somewhat dirty mouthfeel. Recent batches seem to get hoppier too with a pine-tree/tree bark flavour and a sharp bitterness. I think a strong hoppy edge fits in nicely. An interesting original beer. Amen.

Bu sur place en fut (10 oz). Couleur cuivrée foncée, mince collet avec dentèle. Arome d’houblon mi-sucré pas trop fort. Bon goût d’houblon et de seigle amère, un peu sûrette.

On tap. Low carbonation. Brownish color/red. Refreshing. Dry finish. Some bitterness but still light for an IPA

On tap at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPlace.asp? target=blank>Dieu du Ciel in Montreal at their 7th anniversary party. Deep amber in colour, thin dissipating off-white coloured head, minor lace. The aroma was of citrus hops, some caramel, rye, earthy. The flavour had some pine and citrus, earthy, some cookies and dark rye bread. Dry mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes lingering with a rather large bitterness and dry. Pretty good.

Hazy amber hue, with a beige frothy head, floral hops, earthy note, grainy rye accent, leafy, even hint of pines in the aroma, follows through on a medium-bodied palate, with leafy, piney notes, floral hops, leading towards a lingering bitter finish.
