Commercial Description:
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a low off-white head. Sweet malt aroma with light maple, caramel, and light fruit. Rich caramel flavor with light maple and light yeast. Fuller bodied. Caramel/toffee lingers with light maple. Well balanced. Maple adds a nice note.

From the bottle pours a hazy, dark, burnt-orange to sienna brown colored body. A quickly fleeting head of smooth, beige tinted foam leaves behind a soapy, foamy wash that mostly rejoins the body, save for a few wet spots. The aroma is mostly sweet, with big caramel, maple, and vanilla notes dominating the somewhat boozy nose. Hints of oak and cereal grain poke through, as do traces of very lightly bitter, floral hops. The flavor is substantially more grainy than the aroma lets on, with wheat and even some rye notes encroaching upon the sweet caramel and maple. Vanilla sugar and hints of toasted wood are once again present, both lingering for a while on the finish. Quite boozy and syrupy, the palate isn’t really something that appeals to me. I tend to prefer chocolaty or smoky scotch ales, and this is neither. Overly sweet in my book.

Pours a rich auburn color with little head. Aroma is of maple and sugars. Kind of like waking up to waffles on a Sunday morning. Taste is very smooth and somewhat sticky sweet, but not over poweringly so.

Bottle, has a hazy red-ruby (raspberry & rose colors) pour with rust brown at the sides, has generous effervescence and gave a one finger high off-white and tan colored bubbles to form a ring and slight cover after colapsing, bottom of the bottle has a covering of dark sediment, big malt aromas, caramel, brown sugar, syrup and honey sweetness, has faint alcohol on the nose, I thought I got floral hops in the aroma which appeared to be out of place for this drink, has a good nose, Scotch brew with the Maple Syrup seems to go together well on the nose, flavor of caramel, dark malt flavors, dark fruit, brown sugar, alcohol flavor and it is medicine like, a bit too much alcohol for my liking, the alcohol flavor did not increase much as it warms but it is still there and it is more prevalent than what I prefer in a Scotch, mouth feel is about medium, not over carbonated, and alcohol gives a little bite / sting on the tongue with each sip, this is an ok Scotch Ale.

Bottle. Pours with a small, tan head over a pretty ruby colored body. Aroma of dark fruits, maple and raisin. Taste is smokey and peaty with caramel, dark fruits and fermented maple. Syrupy mouthfeel with light bubbles.I was looking forward to this, but feel a bit let down.

Bottle from SL, perhaps the best maple-incorporating brew ever, very well, done. The aroma was caramel, brown sugar, maple syrup. The flavor was caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, some fruity esters, faint roast in the finish. This melded together well, mouthfeel was a tad sticky, but I was shocked to see this maple thing work out well. Nice job, DDC, a brewer that has nailed some winners for me!
