Jun 1, 2009 12oz bottle from Crown Liquors in Carmel, IN. Cloudy amber pour with a medium tan head. Boozy aroma with some sweet malt and pear. Bourbon flavor with bready malt and sugar. Pretty disappointed with this one. DDC typicall makes great stuff, but this one was too boozy to be truly enjoyable.

mild aroma, malty and very sweet, maple syrup and brown sugar mostly.
extremely thick and chewy, with minimal carbonation. it’s pretty much syrup, but in a good way.
sweet, almost cloying flavor, but nice, and balanced with some woody dryness and alcohol.
this is a pretty crazy beer.

Jun 1, 2009 Pours deep amber into a tulip. Molasses, syrup and alcohol aromas. Spritzy with sweet maple upfront and a lasting raisins soaked in alcohol finish.

May 31, 2009 Pours a cloudy medium brown with just a little lacing forming. Aroma is mainly of banana, with a little caramel backing it up. Flavor is very different and difficult to explain, but I’ll try: There’s a lot going on here, maple indeed, banana again, but this time in a nail polish remover sort of way. It’s just slightly scotchy, and the alcohol is very well hidden. there are some other things that I can’t quite nail down. Pleasant flavor though. Not a session beer. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly sticky, with good carbonation. An oddball that everyone should try for themselves. I could see some people being turned off by this and others going crazy over it. I like it. Enjoyable, though I’ll probably forget about it eventually. Overall, good plus.

May 30, 2009 Bottle from Ledger’s. Clear ruby copper pour with a decent foamy beige head. Aromas of red roasted malt and maple. Med. body with frothy carbonation. Hits me as sweet with astringency. The maple is subdued, but unavoidable. Maybe a touch of smoke. Rather unsticky for a Scotch ale. Swear there’s a touch of banana in the finish. A worthy finish to an evening.

May 29, 2009 Bottle at Copenhagen beer festival. Poured an amber gold with an off-white head. Aroma consisted of sweet malts. Flavor delivers on what the aroma was.

May 27, 2009 Murky brown pour with a thin head and decent lacing. This was a Jim recommendation after speaking to him about the Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout which will be hitting the twin cities soon. Aromas of maple syrup, apple, caramel. Quite sweet. The flavors pretty much perfectly mimic the aroma, with a slight alcoholic bite noticed. A slight bittering finish which actually enhances this by not making it overly cloying. Small peated note as well in the finish. I guess this was on the good side for the experiment.

May 27, 2009 Bottle: The aroma consists of maple syrup, caramel, raisins, and alcohol. It pours a transparent reddish-orange with a small off-white that quickly fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with caramel, maple syrup, and fruit. The finish has light-moderate raisin and faint alcohol.
