Flavor is maple, as expected, and a big bourbon flavor, too. Notes of mollassessand brown sugar. But there is also an alcohol burn that really detracts from the overall experience. 17thfloor (1496), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Pours a glowing dark but see-thru red tinted brown with medium light tan bubbly creamy froth. Standard Dieu du Ciel fruity yeasty aroma, rich and phenolic. Flavor follows, very one-dimensional, rich toasty sweet malts, fruity Belgian yeast, maple syrup, light bananas, pretty hot, boozy, phenolic, some maple syrup but I wouldn’t have guessed that without being told. Medium/full bodied, a bit sticky and syrupy, fluffy carbonation. eh...

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2009 From a distance I did smell maple syrup. When held to the nose, heavy caramel, fortified wine, stewed prunes and raisins, esters and heavy sap and wet fresh maple wood.. Umber color with a diminished ecru head. Sweet start with a bit of syrup. Woody flavors filter in. Strong feel to this one. A boozy sort of syrup. This does need to set a bit before it comes to life. Caramel and light toasted malt enter in remind me of the scotch ale origins. A bit too sweet at times, but still a nice relaxing, sipping brew. notalush (2676), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 10, 2009 Pours a hazy brown/rust color, with a few soapy bubbles on top - nose of maple syrup, raisin, plum, alcohol, light peat/scotch earthiness - low carbonation, medium body - the beer succeeds in being high in maple syrup flavor, without being cloyingly sweet - however, the highly apparent alcohol and peaty character that balance it don’t really work well with the syrupy qualities, and create a nearly medicinal character at times - a bit of damp wood and spicy alcohol in the finish - meh - a rare letdown from a mostly consistent brewer. kkearn (1007), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 8, 2009 Updated: May 18, 200911.5oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Chestnut pour, capped with a thin off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, maple, vanilla, wood, and brandy. Peat and maple are the primary flavors, with highlights of toffee, wood, dark fruit and alcohol. Medium bodied, with some sticky sweetness clinging to the lips. Alcohol and maple syrup hang out for a long finish. This was a bit too sweet for me. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2009 Bottle pours deep burnt red brown with small head, no lace. The aroma is maple and boozy, perhaps some plastic. The flavor is wood, maple (and a lingering maple - never had a beer trail with a maple syrup flavor). The palate is rich yet alive. Overall, nice to try! yobdoog (1460), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 8, 2009 This was much lighter than I expected. Nice and drinkable. A hint of smoke and some sweetness. Pretty good. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 4, 2009 Murky brown color with no head. Light floral aroma, lots of sweet malt and a little apple. Flavors of dusty grains, yet really sweet and thick. Very light smoke. Some caramel malts. Not even a trace of maple syrup. Shame, it sounded like it’d be great.
