Commercial Description:
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

11.5oz bottle, from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Chestnut pour, capped with a thin off-white head. Aroma of brown sugar, maple, vanilla, wood, and brandy. Peat and maple are the primary flavors, with highlights of toffee, wood, dark fruit and alcohol. Medium bodied, with some sticky sweetness clinging to the lips. Alcohol and maple syrup hang out for a long finish. This was a bit too sweet for me.

Bottle pours deep burnt red brown with small head, no lace. The aroma is maple and boozy, perhaps some plastic. The flavor is wood, maple (and a lingering maple - never had a beer trail with a maple syrup flavor). The palate is rich yet alive. Overall, nice to try!

This was much lighter than I expected. Nice and drinkable. A hint of smoke and some sweetness. Pretty good.

Murky brown color with no head. Light floral aroma, lots of sweet malt and a little apple. Flavors of dusty grains, yet really sweet and thick. Very light smoke. Some caramel malts. Not even a trace of maple syrup. Shame, it sounded like it’d be great.

341ml bottle. Poured a deeper and cloudy amber color (almost brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of maple syrup, woody, vanilla, caramel, and toffee. Tastes of maple, toffee, caramel, the same woodiness, and some dark fruits. Light to medium alcohol in the finish.

Pours amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is woody/light floral, sweet malty sugary. Fflavour has strong maple sugar sweetness, biscuity and caramel maltiness, thin malty/bourbon-ish woody sourness.

12 oz bottle - pours a hazy deep amber color with smallish light tan head that leaves fairly nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty, loads of caramel, notes of rose water, light cherry, vanilla bean, and maple that serves as a kind of background note to the beer, definitely present, but subdued, not at all over powering as I was worried it might be. Flavor has chewy malts, oak, vanilla, hint of burbon, faint touch of maple and bay leaves, with a faint astringent/metallic note that is difficult to place. A good brew overall, really does the maple thing well, but just seems a bit rough around the edges - not quite as clean as it could have been.

341ml bottle. Pours real dark amber with a nice caramel-coloured head. Aroma is sweet, caramelish, fruity. Fell some bitterness on the finish and some warmth. Taste is spicy, sweet. Hints of maple syrup. It is quite a big beer, much sweetness, much alcohol, I would not drink two of those in a row. This is however very well made, nice complexity, well balanced. Rating #103
