Commercial Description:
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Oh there’s maple! Sweet caramel malt plays in perfectly. Clear tawny, dense tan head. Taupe? Initial heat gives to more caramel sweetness, but returns in the finish. Too hot.

Bottle brought back from Montreal. Pours a murky brown color with a fleeting tan head. Smells of maple and red licorice. Contains a suprising amount of wheat. Tastes predominantly of sap with a note of barley and faint orange rind. Very strange, especially for a scotch ale.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with mimimal head that was mostly diminished with minimal lacing. Heavy woody and scotch alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet scotch finish of moderate to long duration. Good complex brew.

This is what I had. I don’t know why I thought something with maple syrup would be enjoyable given my extreme dislike of said syrup. I should have just burned my $5.50. Aroma of maple syrup, and an over ripe fruit quality that almost reminded me of garbage. Poured somewhat muddy brown with no head. Strong over ripe almost rotten fruit followed by maple syrup sweetness in the finish. Way too sweet, no balance, unpleasant garbage notes. I more or less choked this one down... note to self, remember you hate maple syrup. I should have just popped my 02-06 Schlitz Bull Ice.

Draft at brewpub. Rich amber color, minimal white head, sweet aroma. I don’t usually like maple beers, but this one was not half bad. The maple malt balance was spot on giving the lightess maple taste to a spaicey beerJust a tad to sweet for be, but excellent none the less.

Bottle. Brown with a hint of plum. Smells of hops, butter, malts, wine and fruits. Short taste, heavy and intense. Smooth when it was cold.

Bottle from Quebec, land of the Scotch Ales (at least this season). Steady carbonation but minimal head. Dirty orange colour but clear enough to see the shadow of a finger on the other side of the glass. Syrup blends with the malt to create a sweet malt aroma with maple notes and some Christmas spice scents. As it warms the aroma evolves to a maple fudge blend. Flavour: Sweet start, dark malt, molasses cookie, maple beer and hops finish. Feeling while drinking is more sweet molasses and beer. Maple comes up stronger in the finish and is light enough with enough hop contrast that comparisons to a bottle of table syrup do not arise. The alcohol is well hidden unless you bring it near room temperature and then the alcohol mixes into a delicious maple scotch. Perhaps my favourite maple syrup beer but not one of my favourite Scotch Ales.
