Commercial Description:
Équinoxe du Printemps (French for "spring equinox") is the quintessential marriage of two great traditions: beer brewing in Scotland, and maple syrup production in Quebec. At the first draught, the mouth is overcome by woody, malty flavours, sustained by a discrete touch of sweetness. The aftertaste brings about the flavours of maple, which are sufficiently present to be appreciated, but never overwhelming the typical flavours of a Scotch Ale.

Equinoxe du printemps is brewed only once a year in January. It is aged for two months in order to attain a perfect balance in taste. Then, it is sold starting March 21st, until stocks last.

Big light brown head. Hazy deep barely translucent red-brown body. Sugary vanilla cocoa aroma with fruity spicy notes. Dry-sweet intense malty raisiny taste with vanilla, coca, and alcohol notes. Soft, round aftertaste. Fullish body. Dry spicy licorice and vanilla aftertaste. Excellent! (0.341l bottle, Ølbutikken, København.)

Bottle at the European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. A clear amber pour leaves a beige head of moderate size. Spiced, sweet and caramel-ish nose with some alcohol notes. Malty-sweet flavor with caramel, some spices and a little alcohol. Full-bodied and warming. Nice carbonation level. Long sweet, slightly spiced finish with a pleasant warmth. A really pleasant one. Rating: 8-4-8-4-16-4. (080912)

Bottle. It pours a reddish dark brown body, slightly hazy, with a small, creamy, beige head on top. The aroma is malty sweet, with some beef stock, toffee, alcohol, syrupy sweetness and prunes. Slighlty spiced too maybe. It’s warming and creamy effervescent in the mouth, and has lots of malty, syrupy sweetness, a quite generous hoppy bitterness to battle the sweetness, dried fruits, prunes and sultanas, beef-stock and a little spicy touch. A good dash of toffee too. Lasting, warming finish with lots of sweetness. A big beer almost screaming for a snack. Tried some sausage, gouda and mustard, which was nice. (090427)

11.2oz from Glouglouburp - thanks, Dany! Dark, slightly cloudy amber. Very powerful malty smell, a barely detectable trace of pungent herbs, almost like mint with lamb, and a spicy note in there as well. Slight smoke, but cools out somehow – maybe a menthol sharpness is more accurate. Sweet as it warms, but not sticky. A hint of booze, but nice.

It’s incredibly beautiful, slightly hazy dark red with a creamy and lasting head. The aroma has a light sweetness and it’s very aromatic. It has notes of roasted malt and syrup. The flavour has sweetness and notes of roasted malt with a light, roasted bitterness, loads of caramel, maple syrup, raisin and other dark/dried fruits. It’s very well composed and harmonic, but a little too sweet in the long run, but perfect for sharing.
